Not Dating Duds Text: Proverbs 3:5-7

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. 7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and depart from evil.

Introduction: There’s nothing like a few “dud dates” to make you more selective. Now while being selective limits your options, it does improve the quality of your relationships. Unfortunately there’s no definitive test to predict how a date will work out here are 7 questions you should ask. You might think well this message doesn’t pertain to me, but God’s word tells those who are older, men and women to train the younger. Also, every person in here has some children or grandchildern or a friend that you will be able to relay this word along to!

I.#1. What’s my first impression? For example: Who does my date hang out with? What kind of parties do they enjoy? Do they drink? Smoke? Do drugs? Swear? (This kind of information can save you a lot of heartache!)

A.II Cor 6: 14 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?

B.#2. How well do I know them? Isn’t it wise to be friends with someone before you date, instead of dating a complete stranger?

C.#3. Are they courteous/ respectful of others? Nothing’s worse than a man who brags about his previous conquests or a woman who constantly criticizes her ex?

D.#4. Are they a good listener: You need to be a good listener. If that person you are dating is full of strife, or is always talking bad of others chances are you better stay away!

E.#5. Don’t be afraid to ask point blank questions about Spiritual matters! Such as, “If you were alone with me could you chase the devil away?” Can he or she quote, John 3:16-17?

F.#6. Do they keep their promises? Are they loyal? “A promise breaker usually becomes a heart breaker!”

G.#7. Are our values in sync? Some say, “That opposite attracts”, but surly not in convictions!

H.God’s word say’s, trust in the Lord, lean not to your understanding. ( Pray about your decision) Acknowledge Him in all your ways. Then, He will direct your path! Don’t be wise in your own eyes, but fear God!

I.How many of you right now will commit your relationships unto God? Let’s pray!
