1 Corinthians 3:17 (Amplified Bible)

If anyone does hurt to God’s temple or corrupts it [with false doctrines] or destroys it, God will do hurt to him and bring him to the corruption of death and destroy him. For the temple of God is holy (sacred to Him) and that [temple] you [the believing church and its individual believers] are.

1 Corinthians 3:17 (King James Version)

If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

A. If anyone corrupts the Temple of GOD

"If anyone does hurt to God’s temple or corrupts it [with false doctrines] or destroys it,"

Defile or "phtheiro" in Greek meaning:

a. to shrivel or wither

b. to spoil or ruin

c. to deprave, corrupt, defile and destroy

Aside from the obvious vices that can destroy the body (temple) of GOD such as drinking, smoking and gambling, here are the list of other things that can destroy the temple of GOD.

1 Corinthians 6:18-20 (Amplified Bible)

Shun immorality and all sexual looseness [flee from impurity in thought, word, or deed]. Any other sin which a man commits is one outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.

Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, Whom you have received [as a Gift] from God? You are not your own,

You were bought with a price [purchased with a preciousness and paid for, made His own]. So then, honor God and bring glory to Him in your body.

Psalms 79:1 (Amplified Bible)

A Psalm of Asaph. O GOD, the nations have come into [the land of Your people] Your inheritance; Your sacred temple have they defiled; they have made Jerusalem heaps of ruins.

That's why a CHRISTian believer is called "born against" because as though it seems he/she is against everyone. Yes, because this world can corrupt. That's why the bible advises us to do these things: (1) come our from among unbelievers, (2) separate yourselves from them, and (3) touch or don't ever think of things they think. I believe to certain extent a genuine CHRISTian believer is a separatist, he separates himself from the pollution and corruption of this world.

2 Corinthians 6:17 (Amplified Bible)

So, come out from among [unbelievers], and separate (sever) yourselves from them, says the Lord, and touch not [any] unclean thing; then I will receive you kindly and treat you with favor,

Proverbs 13:5 (Amplified Bible)

A [consistently] righteous man hates lying and deceit, but a wicked man is loathsome [his very breath spreads pollution] and he comes [surely] to shame.

Galatians 6:8 (Amplified Bible)

For he who sows to his own flesh (lower nature, sensuality) will from the flesh reap decay and ruin and destruction, but he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.

2 Peter 2:19 (Amplified Bible)

They promise them liberty, when they themselves are the slaves of depravity and defilement—for by whatever anyone is made inferior or worse or is overcome, to that [person or thing] he is enslaved.
