No Longer...but Finally

“No longer … but..Finally…”

Sub title “Into thy Hands” Luke 23:46

Tradition teaches us these are his last two words he spoke. In honoring such, right here I must say “it is finished!” “Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit!” These are the last two utterances spoken here by Jesus the Christ (the anointed one); one which you have already heard, and one which I now have the pleasure of bringing before you. In this course of action, follow one another naturally that we try to place them together because they naturally lead from one to another. Consider before the cross: little boy Jesus speaking “Luke 2:49 “Wist ye not that I must be about my father’s business? Now on the Cross: That business is now finished; his Father’s business which he had done it his entire life. Now he has come to the end of his days and with nothing left to be done; So Poppa? I have finished the work that thou have gavest me to do. So now Abba... It is done. The work I left you and your presence to do is complete. The task is completed. “(Pater-Father into thy hands I commend my spirit!” logically flows from the other. Now that he is finished he desires to be in the Father’s hands, because he always desired to be in the Father’s house.

That’s right, Christ’s life is continual; just like abc’s, 123, A-Z; alpha & omega all the same every time; So is Jesus Christ Yesterday, today and forevermore. Revelation 22:16: "I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star." Jesus said he is the root and the offspring of David. Jesus was both the root and the offspring, he was both the LORD, capital L, capital O, capital R, capital D, who created Adam from whom David descended, and he was David’s Lord, the man who was born at Bethlehem, that descended from David. Just look at him; see our dying savior not paralyzed by weakness, but strengthen as he was dying. Yes he uttered, I thirst.” But after he had been a little refreshed, with a loud voice as only one who is strong could & triumphantly.., “It is finished!” “Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit!” He said

No longer … but. Finally…

I. In to the Hands of Man – (Delivered & offered him in the Hands of Government)

a. Friends

i. Judas – 30 pieces silver

ii. Crowd – (those who sang Hosanna Sunday)

b. enemies

i. Mob was crowd – (Now demanded Crucify Him)

i. In their hands - Clubs & staves

ii. Jewish High Priests

i. Annas – first trial (former hi pries)

ii. Caiaphas – 2nd trial (current hi pries)

This crowd & priests came up together from Caiaphas home as a mob. Now came to Pilate to have him condemned to death

These priests who offered up imperfect animals alive who died now offered up the Perfect Sacrifice Dead and He became ALIVE...

II. Into the Hands of Government (Delivered & Offered Him into Hands of Death)

a. Procurator – Judah (Governor(Pontius Pilate – served 10yrs)

iii. Initially found no fault sought to release– tried to deliver him back to friends & enemies; then sent him to Herod

iv. Because he was a citizen of Galilee

b. Procurator – Galilee (Herod Governor) - openly mocked / brutalized him

i. Glad to see him didn’t want him on his hands

ii. Sent him back to Pilate (because he was arrested in province)

c. Pilate finally tried to wash His hands, get his finger prints, His identifying marks off the evidence. But any good CSI student knows blood hardest stain to remove it leaves a mark.

III. In to the Hands of Death (God’s hands Delivered Him from Death)

a. Crossed from life to death

i. While Crossing -Gods Hands were active (He Shook the earth /tore it. Matt 27:51-53)

ii. Rip the curtain into two

b. From death to life

i. Elevated his Son by descending him into Hades

But that’s Sunday Morning... let me stop right here on Friday night...the evening of the first day...of our Lord and savior’s death & burial…

LET ME END THIS FOR YOU BY TELLING Sinner Repent, Mark 1:15 saying the time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God is at hand repent you and believe the gospel.

Somebody here may feel like Jesus and endured the hands of the enemy; Apostle Paul 2 Tim 4:5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished [my] course, and I have kept the faith. ARE YOU IN THE FATHER’S HANDS TODAY? Psalm 146:3 do not trust in princes, In mortal man, in whom there is no salvation (NASB). Because man hands, they gave him to the government, from the hands of government, they delivered Him up in the Hands of GOD.. from the hands of GOD He was delivered from Death..that’s RIGHT DEATH.. He died.. he died.. he died.. but.. but but .. but.. oh death where is thy sting. OH grave where is thy victory!
