Summary: Love is the key ingredient, and Christ offers us New Love!

New Love Text: John 13:34-35

34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Men and women outside the circle of believers should know that they are strangers of Jesus’ love because they can see, touch and feel our love for Christ and each other; therefore, they are convicted and convinced that they want this love too! Should a stranger desire your love? The Bible say’s in I Corinthians 13 that without love we are nothing!

Why does Jesus call this love a new commandment? Because this presents a new standard-the love of Jesus! The servant-like, selfless love that Christians display toward one another witnesses to the world that they are true disciples!

John 13: 35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Jesus say’s in Vs.34 I want you to love each other as I have loved you!

Jesus picked up the theme of John 13:13-17 You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. 14 If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. 16 Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. 17 If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.

Jesus shows great concern that the meaning of true servant hood be well understood, and that no one deems it beneath his or her dignity to perform the most menial of tasks for others.

True servant-hood is a disposition of the heart and Spirit, which expresses itself in concrete actions!

I used to raise horses, and it always seemed that the horse with the perfect conformation usually struggled with a bad disposition. If the horse’s disposition was changed you had yourself a winner! (God sees our real disposition, and He desires for you be a winner!)

God’s not looking for us to have a foot washing as much as He would love for us to leave the rituals and just love each other!

Listen, selfless servants will love the world into change! Jesus is saying, “the bottom line is, love Me and love people!”

I Peter 4: 8 And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.”

Hear this word, “Satan seeks to build a stronghold of cold love in our hearts!” (Jesus never played pick and choose; He just loved everyone!)

I would like to say “if you don’t love me it’s because you don’t know me!”

I John 2: 9-11 He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now. 10 He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him. 11 But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

“The outworking of Love”

I John 3: 16-19 By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 17 But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? 18 My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. 19 And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him.

I don’t know if you are sickened by the stardom we all see through the media. Those who can’t sit beside servant believers, those who require thousands before he or she will even come on stage, but I can tell you that this attitude sickens God!

Regardless of what you see or hear serving Christ and other believers is all about servant hood working through love!

Instead of putting a demand on God or standing on God’s word for more faith or money; I think we need to stand on God’s word for a greater love walk!
