Summary: Nevertheless, a good team must do more than shoot good, they must rebound. We need to rebound because we will not always make the shot? MJ's (Jordan) great lesson.

NEVERTHELESS, GOD USES MANY ON THE REBOUND…

By Wade Martin Hughes, Sr. Kyfingers@aol.com

WILL WE BELIEVE THEIR WORDS, OR WILL BELIEVE THE WORD…

Psalm 107:20 He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.

**NEVERTHELESS: in spite of what has just been said…

WE HAVE TASTED THE FRUIT OF GOD’S PROMISES AND IT IS REAL.

YES, THE PROMISE LAND IS JUST LIKE GOD SAID AND PROMISED…

IN SPITE OF WHAT WE JUST SAID, NEVERTHELESS THERE ARE SOME MIGHTY BIG PROBLEMS…

ARE WE ABLE? WRONG QUESTION?

Numbers 13:24 The place was called the brook Eshcol, because of the cluster of grapes which the children of Israel cut down from thence. 25 And they returned from searching of the land after forty days. 26 And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and shewed them the fruit of the land. 27 And they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it. 28 Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.

THE QUESTION IS NOT ARE WE ABLE, THE ANSWER IS YES, GOD IS ABLE TO DO WHAT HE PROMISED…

CALEB AND JOSHUA SAID: THAT IS TRUE ABOUT THE POWER OF THE ENEMY, BUT WE MUST NOT FOCUS ON THE PROBLEMS, OUR FOCUS IS ON “THE GREAT I AM.”

NUMBERS 13: 30 And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.

Joshua 14:8 Nevertheless my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people melt: but I wholly followed the LORD my God.

NEVERTHELESS: in spite of what has just been said…

NEVERTHELESS? TWO SKILLS ARE NEEDED TO PLAY A GOOD BASKETBALL GAME.

There must be good shooting. The goal in basketball is not dribbling up and down the court. DRIBBLING IS AN IMPORTANT SKILL, BUT THERE ARE TWO MORE IMPORTANT SKILLS. Shooting and making baskets is important. So from near the basket the made shot will earn you two points. If you are beyond the arch the made basket will earn you 3 points. The three point shot has been good for the game because it encourages the players to take more shots from a distance further away from the hoops.

NEVERTHELESS, WE KNOW EVEN THE BEST BASKETBALL PLAYERS MISS BASKETS…

SO, THERE IS ANOTHER IMPORTANT SKILL BESIDES MAKING BASKETS. THE REBOUND ABILITY IS VERY IMPORTANT IN ANY BASKETBALL GAME. Basketball players miss foul shots, they miss two point shots, they miss 3 point shots and occasionally we hear the crowd yell: “AIR BALL, AIR BALL.”

FAILURE IS PART OF BASKETBALL… I MISSED MY SHOT? I QUIT?

NO, NEVERTHELESS WE NEED REBOUNDING…

We would never need rebounding if players made 100% of their shots. But in any given game there are many missed shots? Do we bench the players that miss? NO, WE MUST SEE THE GAME OF REBOUNDING IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ANY WINNING TEAM.

Why do players miss baskets?

May the LOST SIGHT OF THE GOAL? Maybe their eyes were not accurate? Maybe there were obstacles in the other team and blocked or distracted the attention?

NEVERTHELESS: in spite of what has just been said… MICHAEL JORDAN PLAYED 15 SEASONS IN THE NATIONAL BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION. WOULD WE CALL MJ A SUCCESS?

He is affectionly known in many circles as M.J.

Michael Jordan was very great in his day but Jordan said: THERE WILL BE A PLAYER GREATER ME.

Jordan was played in a game when the Bulls were down 10 points. Jordan made 25 points to come back and win the game. Tex Winter told Jordon there is no “I” in team. Jordon then replied “ You are right there is no “I” in team, but there is an “I” in win. Sometimes the INDIVIDUAL HAS TO STEP UP AND BEAR THE LOAD.

Jordan stated: LIMITS, LIKE FEARS, ARE OFTEN JUST AN ILLUSION!

Michael Jordon did not offer excuses, he did not miss games. He played when he was hurt. He played when he was in pain. He played when he was sick. He came out and played and performed at an intense level. NO MATTER HOW HE FELT he played the game.

NEVERTHELESS, Michael Jordan the great Basketball Hall of Famer said himself:

I have missed over 9,000 shots in my career.

I lost almost 300 games.

26 times I was trusted to take the game winning shot and I missed it.
