Never a Man Spake

John 7:37-44

Intro: Jesus had been speaking in Jerusalem

-He had caused quite stir. John 7:37-44

-Some believed vs.41 (this is the Christ)

-Some doubted. (It can’t be) vs 41-42

-There was great division. Vs. 43

-Some wanted Him dead. Vs 44

-The Pharisees had send down some officers to take Him. Vs. 31-32

-They returned with the answer. Vs 45-46

-Never a Man spake like this man.

-I have often wondered what it would be like to hear

Jesus audibly speak.

-Sermon on the Mount

-John 12-16 in the upper room

-John 17 The Lord’s prayer.

-The same voice that spoke the world into

existence.

-Would his voice have been soft, loud, gentile, BASS

-One day we will hear….

-These men had heard and their lives had been changed.

-We do know that when Jesus Spoke.

1. He spoke boldly. John 7:26

A. He spoke without fear.

B. He was not concerned with what people thought

about Him.

C. He spoke the truth (always)

1Pet. 2:22 Who did no sin, neither was guile (deceit) found in his mouth:

D. He was not concerned with the critics.

E. He was not concerned with the connivers

(Pharisees).

F. He was not concerned with the consequences.

2. He spoke with Authority. Mathew 7:28-29

A. He is the Creator

B. The authority of His voice was recognized.

C. He taught as though he knew what he was talking

about.

1. Did you ever hear someone try to teach about

something they knew nothing about?

a. Administrator who had never been in a classroom teaching about how to keep a

under control.

b Jesus didn’t learn it from books

c. Jesus didn’t learn it at the university.

d. He was all knowing and all wise.

2. He had the authority to teach His own doctrines.

3. He spoke with power.

A. What Jesus spoke things happened.

1. Matthew 9:1-8

2. John 11 – The raising of Lazarus. — “Lazarus,

come forth”

B. I think the very sound of His voice had power.

-Power to heal.

-Power to comfort. (John 14)

-Power to raise the dead.

4. He spoke with simplicity. Mark 4:26-34

A. Jesus often spoke in parables.

-“An earthly story with a heavenly meaning”

B. He spoke in the language of the people.

C. He spoke in the culture of the people

D. He used things around Him.

-The sower. Luke 8:5-8

- The light on the hill above the sermon on the

mount.

Matt. 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city

that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

E. Many of the parables are hard for us to understand

because we cannot see the object lesson that Jesus

was teaching.

1. As they were able to hear it…as they were able to

understand.

2. Jesus knew how to make it plain.

5. He spoke with grace. Luke 4:24-22

A. They wondered at the gracious words.

B. He speaks grace…

Conclusions:

? We may not be able to hear the audible voice of Jesus…

but he did say that we could hear His voice.

John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them,

and they follow me:

We hear his voice as he speaks to us through the Holy

Spirit.

We hear His voice as he speaks to us in His word.

Wouldn’t it be something to hear Jesus speak?
