Summary: Murder comes in many different forms. It is misunderstood in our culture. Some religions believe that stepping on a bug or ant is equivalent to murder. What does the Word of God say about it?

The students gave various individual opinions, and then the professor asked them to break into small groups for "consultation." All of the groups came back to report that they would recommend abortion.

"Congratulations," the professor said, "You just took the life of Beethoven!"

It forbids genocide.

This refers to either euthanasia or assisted suicide. Dr. Jack Kevorkian, aka Dr. Death, has gone on to receive his just reward.

“In whose hand is the life of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind?” Job 12:10

“Woe to him who gives drink to his neighbor, pressing him to your bottle, even to make him drunk, that you may look on his nakedness! You are filled with shame instead of glory. You also—drink! And be exposed as uncircumcised! The cup of the Lord’s right hand will be turned against you, and utter shame will be on your glory.” Habakkuk 2:15 -16

Genocide might also be aligned with giving underage youth drugs or alcohol. It’s a shame that schools have to have programs like “shattered dreams” to highlight the tragedy and travesty of alcoholism and drug addiction. Our culture is focusing on the symptom rather than the heart of the issue which is the sinful “heart.”

It forbids fratricide.

Fratricide is the killing of a brother or friend. Forbidding this cures bullying in our schools and slander in the church. It can be done as much with the tongue as it can with a gun!

“‘You shall not hate your brother in your heart. You shall surely rebuke your neighbor, and not bear sin because of him. You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.’” Leviticus 19:17-18

“You have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.' But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, 'Raca!' shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, 'You fool!' shall be in danger of hell fire.” Matthew 5:21-22

“Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.” 1 John 3:15

“But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.” 1 John 3:17-18

“If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?” 1 John 4:20

“But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” Revelation 21:8

Slander, ridicule or insulting the reputation of others is fratricide. Sadly, we pass laws for our schools and community for anti-bullying when God has already addressed the problem.
