Summary: We are not called to entertain and right exposition of the Word may cause some pain.

1 Peter 4:11  If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

When I am in the Pulpit, I am the Ambassador of Christ declaring war on sin and offering the terms of unconditional surrender to the sinner, rallying the soldiers of Christ to the battle, challenging the cowards to courage, warning the deserters of judgment and flashing the Sword of the Lord in the faces of the enemies of God. That type of mission leaves little room for jesting, which is not convenient.

If Church is more about the good jokes and neat stories the speaker is giving then maybe he is a cheer leader, comedian or motivational speaker but he is not a minister of the Gospel. If that is what you are looking for in a church and preacher than you are totally unaware of the purpose of the church no matter what pop culture books you read.

If preaching as described in the first paragraph doesn't motivate you to be a better Christian or to evangelize others then maybe you should skip Church and attend a sales seminar or join some social club for that is all the place you call church is anyway. If the pastor and congregation are willing to skip truth for fear of offense and substitute witticisms, pithy sayings and pop psychology then they are not a church despite the tag on the door and the title used by the speaker/facilitator.

Truth divides and doctrine must be taught and it must be sound or all you have is a tinkling symbol and sounding brass for you cannot have true love without truth. Your programs and slogans are mere propaganda and treason against the Lord.

Doctrine is teaching and no matter how you may deny it you are teaching something but is it a doctrine of motivational mush or the pure Word of God?
