Summary: We are gathered to honor and pay tribute to our loved one and friend.
We have gathered in respect and to honor and to remember our loved one and friend. Although, they have departed physically, we know this is God’s plan. God’s way to transport us from this life to the next is only by death. Let me share a few verses from which to draw from today.
1. We know our life is brief and uncertain.
a. James 4:14
b. Hebrews 9:27
c. Ecclesiastes 9:5
2. We also know at the close of this life as we know it, God has prepared a home for us, a place our minds can not conceive.
a. John 14:1-3
b. Eye hath not seen.
3. Our loved one has left this way of life and departed unto eternity. Genesis 2:7
4. We have been left with many memories.
5. Our memories are an especially important part of our life.
a. Locked away down deep inside your heart is a treasure house that only you can open.
b. There are memories and visions that can never be erased.
6. The Bible tells us over and over to remember.
a. Exodus 13:3, Remember this day.
b. 1 Chronicles 16:12, remember his works.
7. 2 Peter 1:15, 2 Peter 3:1, What things will you remember?
a. Words; statements or phrases.
b. Places; states, towns, houses, vehicles.
c. People: when we see or think of one it reminds us of another.
d. Songs; grandmother.
I. What Memories Will You and I Leave Behind?
1. If Jesus tarries His coming, you and I will be the focus of a service like this.
2. What will people remember about us?
3. 2 Timothy 1:1-7; Paul writing to Timothy said, “I remember these things about you.”
4. It is not wrong to desire to be remembered for certain qualities.
a. Paul said, “I remember thy tears.”
b. “Your tender heart.”
c. “Your faith.”
5. 2 Corinthians 3:2; reminds us that we will be remembered, “known and read of all men.”
a. You may never know in this life whose life you have touched.
II. I Want to be Remembered for:
1. Loving life.
a. Psalm: this is the day that the Lord hath made.
b. 1 Timothy 6:6-8; good advice.
c. Philippians 4:11-12; learn how to live.
d. Luke 12:15
e. We need to enjoy each day as God gives it to us.
2. Love labor.
a. Genesis 3:19
b. A man labors for his family.
c. Ecclesiastes 5:12; 9:10
d. 1 Timothy 5:8
e. You know a lot about a man when you know his work habits.
f. I want to be remembered as a man who lived life, enjoyed each day. A man who loved to work, not afraid to sweat, and get my hands dirty.
3. Greater still I want to be remember as a man who loved God.
a. Matthew 22:37-40; Luke 10:25-37
b. As we love the Lord, we love people. John 13:34, 15:12-15
III. This the Greatest Memory You can Leave for Your Love Ones.
1. That you know Jesus Christ as your personal savior.
2. No doubt and no confusion about your eternity.
3. Will the circle be unbroken?
4. Your eternity is in a person, Jesus. 1 John 5:13
