Married To the King
Luke 20:34-36
34 And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage:
35 But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:
36 Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
The question has been asked many times, “When I die, will I still be married to my wife?”
“When we get to Heaven, will we still be a family?”
This morning we are going to attempt to give that answer.
Some of the Sadducees came up to Jesus and said, Master, Moses wrote unto us if any man’s brother dies and they have a wife, and he has no children then the man’s brother should take up the wife in order to keep his seed alive.
They went on to say that there were 7 brethren and the first took a wife and he died without children.
The next brother took the woman as his wife and he died and there still was no child.
This goes on with all 7 of the brothers, they all die childless, the woman now also dies childless.
They now go on to say in the Resurrection whose wife will she be?
You need to understand that the Sadducees never actually believed in the Resurrection, all they were trying to do was trap Jesus.
The Sadducees claimed to believe Genesis through Deuteronomy so they were taking this Scripture as their weapon against Jesus.
Deuteronomy 25:5
5 If brethren dwell together, and one of them die, and have no child, the wife of the dead shall not marry without unto a stranger: her husband’s brother shall go in unto her, and take her to him to wife, and perform the duty of an husband’s brother unto her. {her husband’s...: or, her next kinsman}
The problem with the way they believed was that they left the rest of the Word of God out.
They had their own concept of what they sought the Word of God meant and that was what they were going to accept.
They never understood that all Scripture was given by the inspiration of God.
2 Timothy 3:16
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
A lot of times, we want the blessing that comes from God but we want to leave part of the Word out because we think it does not apply to us.
The blessing of God comes through obedience to what the Word says to do.
God will not and He cannot bless willful disobedience.
That is where the Sadducees were, they had the greatest teacher of all times and this teacher was revealing truths to them and all they had to was apply what Jesus spoke.
We might get on the Sadducees for not applying the truths that Jesus spoke, but what about us when we don’t apply the truths that He speaks to us?
They have now tried to entrap Jesus with their clever schemes.
Jesus now speaks to them and He says:
Luke 20:34-36
34 And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage:
35 But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:
36 Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
As long as we are in this world, we are able to marry and to be given in marriage.
When we die, we are not able to marry and to be given in marriage.
The reason for this is because when we die or get Raptured we would no longer be married to our spouse, but we will be married to the King.
When we accept Jesus as our personal Savior, we become a bride who is waiting for the appearance of the groom. (Jesus)
Revelation 22:10-19
10 And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand.
11 He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.
12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
