Married To the King
Luke 20:34-36
34 And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage:
35 But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:
36 Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
The question has been asked many times, “When I die, will I still be married to my wife?”
“When we get to Heaven, will we still be a family?”
This morning we are going to attempt to give that answer.
Some of the Sadducees came up to Jesus and said, Master, Moses wrote unto us if any man’s brother dies and they have a wife, and he has no children then the man’s brother should take up the wife in order to keep his seed alive.
They went on to say that there were 7 brethren and the first took a wife and he died without children.
The next brother took the woman as his wife and he died and there still was no child.
This goes on with all 7 of the brothers, they all die childless, the woman now also dies childless.
They now go on to say in the Resurrection whose wife will she be?
You need to understand that the Sadducees never actually believed in the Resurrection, all they were trying to do was trap Jesus.
The Sadducees claimed to believe Genesis through Deuteronomy so they were taking this Scripture as their weapon against Jesus.
Deuteronomy 25:5
5 If brethren dwell together, and one of them die, and have no child, the wife of the dead shall not marry without unto a stranger: her husband’s brother shall go in unto her, and take her to him to wife, and perform the duty of an husband’s brother unto her. {her husband’s...: or, her next kinsman}
The problem with the way they believed was that they left the rest of the Word of God out.
They had their own concept of what they sought the Word of God meant and that was what they were going to accept.
They never understood that all Scripture was given by the inspiration of God.
2 Timothy 3:16
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
A lot of times, we want the blessing that comes from God but we want to leave part of the Word out because we think it does not apply to us.
The blessing of God comes through obedience to what the Word says to do.
God will not and He cannot bless willful disobedience.
That is where the Sadducees were, they had the greatest teacher of all times and this teacher was revealing truths to them and all they had to was apply what Jesus spoke.
We might get on the Sadducees for not applying the truths that Jesus spoke, but what about us when we don’t apply the truths that He speaks to us?
They have now tried to entrap Jesus with their clever schemes.
Jesus now speaks to them and He says:
Luke 20:34-36
34 And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage:
35 But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:
36 Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
As long as we are in this world, we are able to marry and to be given in marriage.
When we die, we are not able to marry and to be given in marriage.
The reason for this is because when we die or get Raptured we would no longer be married to our spouse, but we will be married to the King.
When we accept Jesus as our personal Savior, we become a bride who is waiting for the appearance of the groom. (Jesus)
Revelation 22:10-19
10 And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand.
11 He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.
12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.
16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.
17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. {out of the book...: or, from the tree of life}
I’ve entitled this today:
“Married to the King” and here is the reason why:
Dream 6-9-08
I dreamed that Susan and I were in this room with Jesus, this room must have been in Heaven. All of our needs and wants were provided in this room. Jesus just knew we never had to say a word. Susan looked at my finger where my wedding band used to be and I said at least I still have the imprint there. I knew that we were not married in the sense of the way that we were when we were on Earth. But yet we were together and we were a family. I walked up to Jesus. He was setting at a desk. I never said a word and He didn’t either. He looked at me with love in His eyes. He opened the desk drawer and He gave me a wedding band. I knew that we were married to Him. He gave me the desires of my heart.
Interpretation
In a room with Jesus in Heaven would represent that He has a dwelling place for us when we die or get Raptured.
All of our needs and wants were provided in this room.
I never had to say a Word, Jesus knew what my thoughts were, He knows everything that there is to know about us.
Susan and I were not married in the sense that we are down here, but yet we were still a family.
Mathew 22: 29-30
29 Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.
30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.
We were not married, but yet we were still a family.
I walked up to Jesus and He was setting at a desk and again I never said a word.
Jesus opened up the desk drawer and He gives me a wedding band, I knew that we were married to Him.
A wedding band in this case represents a Covenant with God.
He gave me the desires of my heart.
Remember the Prodigal Son?
Luke 15:22
22 But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:
The son who was lost came home and the Father threw a celebration for him.
He put a ring on his hand and shoes on his feet.
The son who was lost in sin came home where he needed to be.
I was lost but guess what? Now I am found!
I was blind but now I see!
I am now walking along with Jesus and He is supplying all of my needs.
Who are you married to?
Who are you serving?
Are you like the Sadducees trying to take the Scriptures and trying to get them to best suit you?
All Scripture is given by the inspiration of God, not just part.
Jesus, while we were in this room, was supplying all of our needs and wants and He made a Covenant with us.
If I am not obedient to what the Word of God says am I really in Covenant?
Do I lie?
Do I cheat?
Do I steal?
Am I paying God His tithes?
Am I putting God Number 1 in my life?
Whenever you are married to the King, He gives His bride a ring, you are under a covenant.
When you’re married to the King, you don’t even have to say a word. He knows and He will react in your situation.
A few years ago, I dreamed that Jesus walked up to me and told me He can’t do things for certain people in the church because of disobedience.
Can God bless you this morning?
This morning I opened up with a question:
The question has been asked many times, “When I die, will I still be married to my wife?”
“When we get to Heaven, will we still be a family?”
This morning we are going to attempt to give that answer.
The answer is no; I won’t be married to my wife in that sense, but we will still be a family.
We are all children of God!
Romans 9:8
8 That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.
Church, we are going to be married to the Groom!
Closing
Do you have your engagement ring this morning?
If not, and you want one come up and accept Jesus as your personal Savior, you can receive your ring of promise.
Song “We shall see the King”
John 14:12-15
12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
