Jesus calls every believer to courageous, surrendered living—trusting His authority, presence, and purpose—as we share His love and message in our everyday lives.
Some of us came in today with a smile that hides a sigh. Some with questions that keep us awake. Some with a to-do list longer than a river. And yet, here we are, gathered under the gentle reign of the risen Christ, the One who meets us in our Mondays and our midnights. He knows the names on your prayer list. He knows the ache behind your laughter. He knows the needs of your family, your workplace, your city. And He speaks a word big enough for the entire world and near enough for your next step.
Picture the scene: a windswept hillside in Galilee. Footprints still fresh from the Man who has walked out of a grave. A circle of ordinary friends. Fishermen with calloused hands. Former failures with forgiven hearts. The risen Jesus opens His mouth, and everything that felt uncertain begins to steady. The King does not shout to scare them; He speaks to steady them. He does not bark orders; He gives a promise. He does not point to their strength; He points to His. What He said then, He still says now. His voice carries across centuries and pews and kitchen tables and coffee shops: All authority. All nations. Always with you.
Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote, “When Christ calls a man, he bids him come and die.” — Dietrich Bonhoeffer, The Cost of Discipleship. Not a call to gloom, but to glad surrender. To release small plans for a greater plan. To trade self-promotion for salvation proclamation. To live as people who actually believe Jesus reigns and remains. If He holds all authority, why would fear hold us? If He sends us, why would we stay silent? If He is with us, why would we give up?
Friends, the Great Commission isn’t just for missionaries on faraway shores; it’s for moms and mechanics, teachers and teenagers, managers and mail carriers. It’s for kitchen-table conversations and sideline whispers, for cubicles and classrooms, for shelters and boardrooms. It’s as close as your neighbor’s name and as wide as the world. The King claims a crown, gives a calling, and promises company. Authority. Assignment. Abiding presence. Three anchors for anxious hearts. Three words that can turn timid believers into bold witnesses: His power, His plan, His presence.
Hear the Scripture that has launched movements and mended lives:
Matthew 28:18-20 KJV And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
What does this mean for the week ahead? It means the Lord over galaxies also guides your next conversation. It means the Savior who stepped out of the tomb steps into your schedule. It means your ordinary moments can carry eternal weight. Reckless headlines lose their grip when Jesus carries the headline: All power is given unto Me. Hesitation loses steam when Jesus says: Go. Loneliness loosens its hold when Jesus adds: I am with you alway.
So lift your chin. Let courage stand up inside you. The same Christ who calmed storms and called sinners is calling you. He provides what He commands. He stands where He sends. He finishes what He starts. He will take your willing yes and turn it into someone else’s new life. And someday, when you stand before Him, you will see faces you never expected to see—neighbors, coworkers, cousins, strangers turned sisters and brothers—because you carried His name with kindness and clarity.
Opening Prayer: Lord Jesus, King with all authority in heaven and on earth, we bow our hearts before You. Settle our fears with Your sovereignty, and stir our hearts with Your sending. Give us clear eyes to see people as You see them, bold lips to speak Your gospel with grace, and compassionate hands to serve with joy. Teach us to obey all that You have commanded, and train our feet to go where Your love leads. Strengthen the weary, steady the anxious, awaken the apathetic, and unite us in Your mission. Thank You for the priceless promise of Your presence. Walk with us as we walk for You. In Your strong and tender name we pray. Amen.
Jesus speaks with a claim that reaches everywhere. He says the right to rule is His. Heaven hears Him. Earth answers to Him. No rival can cancel His word. No corner sits outside His care.
This claim did not appear out of thin air. The Father has given it. Long ago Daniel saw a figure like a Son of Man receive a kingdom that would not pass away. That promise now stands in full light. The Messiah holds the scepter. His cross did not end His work. His rising marked Him out as Lord in plain view.
Think about what that means. He has the right to forgive sins. He has the right to tell the sea to be still. He has the right to open graves. He has the right to send angels. He has the right to rule governments and households and hearts. Truth is not up for a vote when He speaks. His word is final and good.
This frees tired people. You do not have to build your own authority. You do not have to hold the world on your shoulders. You listen. You trust. You follow. His rule carries the weight you cannot carry. His rule gives order when life feels like a storm. His rule is the bedrock under your feet.
Because He holds the throne, He sends us. The little word therefore matters. Mission grows out of His rule. He does not guess. He does not suggest. He commissions. We move because He says so, and His word has power to open doors we cannot open.
“Go” does not only mean far away lands. It means a life that is turned outward. It means your feet are available. It means you look up and notice people. It means you walk into conversations with purpose. It means you step toward need, not away from it. It means you plan with prayer and act with care.
“Make disciples” sets the aim. We are not collecting names. We are helping people learn Christ. A disciple learns His words, imitates His ways, and trusts His heart. This takes time. It takes patience. It takes truth and love held together. It happens in homes, in halls, and in all the ordinary places where people live.
“All nations” widens our eyes. Every people group matters. Every language matters. Every culture stands within His reach. We carry good news across lines of history, class, and custom. We listen well. We show respect. We hold fast to the message and show it with our lives. His throne is global, so our care is global too.
