Summary: Girl Scout Sunday and making a difference
Making a difference
Girl Scout Sunday 2025
Matthew 5:13-16
Matthew 7:7-12
Good Morning everyone, we are glad that you are here.
I am excited to have with us this morning the Girl Scouts and their respective troops this morning. They meet in our building several times a week with different age groups and they were a part of our service as they walked in the American flag and the Christian flag. They stood before and recited their pledge to have integrity and honor and to respect the lives of others.
I think we can learn a lesson about standing before the Lord and pledging to be people of integrity and honor and to bless His holy name by our actions in our lives.
I want to thank you for coming and bringing us this program…it is always an honor to have you.
I want to encourage each of us to realize that we can make a difference. Each and every one of us has the opportunity to make a difference in some way.
I think it is pretty special that 113 years ago this week…March 12, 1912 that one lady made a difference in millions of girls life.
Searching where she could be in God’s plan, Juliette Gordon low made an impact on lives as God gave her direction.
She made what is now a famous call to her cousin Nina…“come right over, I got something for the girls of Savanna, and all America, and all the world, and were going to start it tonight”
Can I say it again…Come right over…and were going to start it tonight!
Action words!!!!
I love the energy it brings
I love that she didn’t sit on her idea,
I love that she did not take it to a board of directors who would take it to another group of people.
Sometimes we talk things to death!
My people will talk to your people and we will be in touch.
I have an idea- and we will begin tonight!
One person can make a difference!... and that one person could be you
Why shouldn’t it be you? God is not a respecter of people- He doesn’t love Juliette low more than he loves each of us.
The one person could be you and the difference is weather you will allow God to use you. That you won’t get caught up in the negatives of the world and allow the world to steal your dream of making a difference.
What I mean by that is…We have all heard people who are negative every time someone has an idea that is different.
“Oh that has been tried before” “That will never work “
Girl scouts and Daisy’s and Brownies are exciting, it allows you to be a part of something that is bigger than you are alone.
God’s kingdom is full of people who have the potential of doing great things for God.
The problem is they don’t believe that they are the ones that God wants to use.
I see two things that could keep you from accomplishing what God wants you to do.
Integrity (lack of) - you cannot motivate people around you because of your moral or ethical behavior in the past.
Determination- people today are so quick to quit on a project at first sign of struggle.
Benjamin Franklin failed 1000's of times, in fact he had said I know of 1000's of ways it won’t work before he found a way that it would work.
Quote-- “The proof that one truly believes is in action”
The difference is some talk and some walk. The people that are going to get to it and those few that get to it!!!
This can be applied to your life - you will do and say what you believe in.
You believe in prayer- you will pray
You believe in church- you will be in the church on Sunday
You believe in family- you will find time to make it work
Juliette Low didn’t let physical problems stop her.
She had a bad ear drum because of improper doctor care and had rice thrown in her good ear at her wedding and it punctured her eardrum and got infected and she lost total hearing in that ear.
Matthew 5:13-16 is about being the salt and light of this world.
Matthew 5:13-16 Read Slowly from Bible
This portion of scripture is called the Sermon on the Mount and was preached by Jesus Himself.
The theme is how people of God are to live their lives as an example of the Lord being in their life.
Illustration-
Four high school boys were late to their morning classes one day. They entered the classroom and solemnly told their teacher they were detained due to a flat tire. The sympathetic teacher smiled and told them it was too bad they were late because they missed a test that morning but she was willing to let them make it up. She gave them each a piece of paper and a pencil and sent them to four corners of the room. She then told them they would pass if they could answer just one Question: which tire was flat???
