Lord"S Supper Meditation #1
Contributed by Jerry Cosper on Mar 31, 2015 (message contributor)
Summary: A simple 5-10 minutes presentation of the Lord's Supper
(Have deacons and yokefellows come and prepare)
Our worship continues with the observance of the Lord’s Supper, one of the ordinances of the church. It’s a time of celebration and thanksgiving for Christ’s gift to us. It’s also an acknowledgment of Christ’s living presence in our worship.
The church received the command to continue the ordinance of the Lord’s Supper until He returns. It’s a communion of believers with Christ in common worship. The fellowship of believers is experienced in Christ.
There is no saving power in taking the bread that symbolizes Jesus’ body, or in drinking from the cup that symbolizes Jesus’ blood that was shed for us.
If you have accepted Christ as your personal Savior, we invite you to join us in this time of celebration. We have open communion here at SEBC which means you don’t have to be a member or even a Baptist to partake. We only ask that you know Christ and have accepted Him as your Savior.
I pray that you have examined your motives for taking of this meal as we begin.
(Pass bread and cup)
I read again from Paul’s writings in 1 Cor. 11, “For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you that the Lord Jesus, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, (PRAYER), He broke it and said, “This is body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of Me.”
“In the same way also the cup was taken, (PRAYER), saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as oft as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”
“For as oft as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.”
PRAYER
Matthew 26:30
New American Standard Bible (NASB)
“After singing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.” Following that example turn to hymn #36.
