LIFE IS NOT FAIR

Acts 25:1-27

Introduction:

This morning’s Message is about something that we all figure out as we get older- Life is not fair. How many times has something happened to you or someone important to you and your 1st thought is, “This is not fair”? As we continue in Acts, we see that Paul is dealing with challenge after challenge. Just as a reminder, Paul had been left in Prison by the outgoing Roman Governor over the Judean Providence, Felix.

Acts 24:27

Dealing with unfair…

1. Politics.

Paul had been unfairly put into prison because he went to Jerusalem to the Temple to worship. Paul went there to give a gift to the Jerusalem Church and followed the proper preparations before he went to the Temple; but that didn’t matter. He was in prison for 2 years and spent time with Governor Felix; but when Felix left office, he did not want to upset the Jews, so he left Paul in prison.

Right now, in the U.S.A. and in the State of NM; politics are insane. Our Government and Politicians are working overtime to change anything that is remotely Christian or moral. They are legalizing recreational drugs, while at the same time making it almost impossible for Seniors to get the pharmaceutical medication they need. They are allowing people to come over the border and break whatever laws they want to without consequence; but will jail anyone that doesn’t agree with their evilness. They are forcing Public Schools to teach and allow things like abortion and transgender ideology; but if Christians do not agree with it, they are guilty of hate crimes. The bottom line is- Politics are not fair.

Acts 25:1-12

Dealing with unfair…

2. Prominent people.

These Religious leaders were very prominent people within Jerusalem. They were not use to being told no. They were important, and the rules did not apply to them. They wanted this new Governor to send Paul back to Jerusalem so that they could kill him on the way.

Nothing like prominent people getting away with lying and cheating people all of the time. Don’t you hate when some people can get away with things while others are severely punished for the same thing? It is happening all of the time, (even in Hobbs). In last Sunday’s Newspaper, it was reported that 1 of Hobbs’ City Commissioners was arrested for beating someone up again- This is his 2nd time. At this point, nothing has happened to him. If I got into a fight with someone over parking in the wrong spot, I would have been jailed and fired from my job immediately. Prominent people are not fair.

Acts 25:13-27

Dealing with unfair…

3. Popular opinion.

Did the entire Jewish community want Paul dead? Of course not. That is the same as someone telling me that everyone dislikes something. In my experience, everyone usually is less than 10 people. Instead of the Governor just making a decision, he put it on King Agrippa to help him out. Their goal, (like most Politicians) was to make decisions that are popular with the right people.

The majority of people in the U.S.A. do not think that people entering our country illegally should be allowed to stay; and that we definitely should not be giving them everything free. The majority of people do not think that men should be able to compete against women in sports.

So why is all of this and many other social issues decided in favor of the minority of people? It is because they want to be popular amongst certain people. If you watch how our Politicians vote on certain bills, you realize that they do not vote how their constituents want them to; but how other Politicians want them to.

Conclusion:

Christians, life isn’t fair; but that is not always a bad thing. When it comes to salvation, I do not want what is fair. Fair would mean I would perish in Hell; but through God’s grace and mercy, I can have eternal life in Heaven.
