Summary: The fire of the Lord works in two~folds. To the believer, it equips, purifies and sanctified. To the unbeliever, it destroys them and their works.

LET THE FIRE FALL

Fire is a symbol of God. Often times, our God manifests himself in fire. The Bible says in Hebrews 12:29

Hebrews 12:29 For our God is a consuming fire.

Fire, no doubt is synonymous with refining and purifying according to Malachi 3:2-3

Malachi 3:2-3 But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap:

And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.

So, fire refines and purifies. Sanctification is a process of being set apart for Godly use alone. Therefore, all them that must be sanctified must necessarily, first be purified by the fire of the Holy Spirit.

WHAT THEN DOES LET THE FIRE FALL MEAN TO A CHILD OF GOD?

1. Let the fire fall, could mean God saying, I need your attention as in the case of Moses in Exodus.

Exodus 3:2-4 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.

And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.

And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.

2. Let the fire fall, could also mean, I need to separate the chaff from the wheat as in 1 Kings 18

1 Kings 18:38-40 Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.

And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God.

And Elijah said unto them, Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape. And they took them: and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there.

3. Let the fire fall, could equally mean, let the enemies of God be roasted as in 2 Kings 1:10

2 Kings 1:10

And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, If I be a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And there came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.

The Bible says in Psalms 68:1

Psalms 68:1 Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered: let them also that hate him flee before him.

4. Let the fire fall could also mean God allowing us pass through some test for our upliftment

This third I will put into the fire; I will refine them like silver and test them like gold. They will call on my name and I will answer them; I will say, ‘They are my people,’ and they will say, ‘The Lord is our God’” (Zechariah 13:9).

“See, I have refined you, though not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction” (Isaiah 48:10).

The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but the Lord tests the heart (Proverbs 17:3).

For you, God, tested us; you refined us like silver (Psalm 66:10).

However, we must remember that our God is a loving father who is always there for us no matter the situation and circumstances. Hear Him in Isaiah 43

Isaiah 43:2-3 When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee.

5. Let the fire fall also means, be filled in the Holy Ghost and fire and be empowered

Acts 2:3-4 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

This was indeed as promised in Matthew 3:11 and Luke 3:16 when John the Baptist decleared:

Matthew 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
