Let’s Give Them Something To Talk About
Part 2
Zephaniah 3:14-17
1. God Is With Us
Methodist pastor Charles Allen had a golfing buddy who was, according to others, easily frustrated on the golf course and, after bad shots, very foul-mouthed. Yet Allen himself had never heard the man utter a profane word. One day he asked him about it. The man simply replied, “When I am with my preacher I control myself.”
Later Allen used this as a sermon illustration.
“Suppose one realized that he or she is in God’s presence at all times,” he said. “What a marvelous difference that would make!”
Is 7:14 All right then, the Lord himself will choose the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel—‘God is with us.’
2. God Saves Us
Exodus 15:2 The LORD is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation; He is my God, and I will praise Him; My father’s God, and I will exalt Him.
When Jesus takes your hand, He keeps you tight. When Jesus keeps you tight, He leads you through your whole life. When Jesus leads you through your life, He brings you safely home.—Corrie ten Boom
Psalm 106:8 Nevertheless He saved them for His name’s sake,That He might make His mighty power known.
3. God Delights In Us
Psalm 100:3 (NLT) Acknowledge that the LORD is God! He made us, and we are his. We are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Deuteronomy 30:10 (NLT) The LORD your God will delight in you if you obey his voice and keep the commands and laws written in this Book of the Law, and if you turn to the LORD your God with all your heart and soul.
4. God Quiets Us With His Love
A little boy went to the grocery store and asked the clerk for a box of detergent. The clerk asked the boy why he needed detergent.
“I want to wash my dog,” replied the lad.
“Well, son, this detergent is pretty strong for washing a little dog.”
The little boy replied, “That’s what I want. He’s mighty dirty.”
He took the box of detergent home, and about a week later he returned. The store clerk, recognizing him, asked him about his dog. “Oh, he’s dead,” said the boy.
“Oh, I’m sorry,” replied the clerk. “I guess the detergent was too strong.”
“I don’t think the detergent hurt him,” said the boy. “I think it was the rinse cycle that got him.”
