Summary: Mothers' day? Father's day? Life in general needs something few accept. Is there a difference in hearing and listening. Let's just cut off the ear? Many spiritual problems are birthed because we tend to not listen. DO WE LISTEN TO GOD AND PEOPLE?

LET’S CHOP OFF THE EAR? GOT YOUR EARS ON? HALF AN EAR?

By Wade Martin Hughes, Sr. Kyfingers@a0l.com (YouTube: Wade Hughes)

*LET US BEGIN WITH A QUESTION: IS THERE A DIFFERENCE IN HEARING AND LISTENING? Life is about choices.

*THERE ARE 3 BONES COLLECTIVELY ARE KNOWN AS OSSICLES = 1. MALLEUS (HAMMER); 2. INCUS (ANVIL); 3. AND STAPES (STIRRUP), THE EAR DRUM VIBRATES AGAINST A SMALL SNAIL SHAPED STRUCTURE THAT HAS THOUSANDS OF SMALL NERVES THAT TURN SOUND VIBRATIONS INTO ELECTRICAL SIGNALS THAT THE BRAIN INTERPRETS AS HEARING SOUNDS.

Matthew 11:15 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Matthew 11:15 (MSG) "Are you listening to me? Really listening?

Matthew 11:15 (NLT2) Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand!

For many years I was a CB’er. My oldest son was little and we were traveling down 68 in Virginia. Back then our son would stand between the bucket seats as we traveled. I turned the CB on and a friend came over the radio and said: BASS PICKER, YOU GOT YOUR EARS ON? My little son touched my ear and said: DAD, TELL HIM: YOU HAVE YOUR EARS ON. I haven’t CB’d in many years. I KNOW MANY PEOPLE TRAVELING ON THE JOURNEY OF DAILY LIFE THAT DON’T HAVE THEIR EARS ON… THEY REFUSE TO LISTEN? THERE IS A LOST ART OF COMMUNICATING SKILLS AND PEOPLE REFUSE TO LISTEN. Hear? Listen? It might be hard to listen when you already know everything?

What is the difference between listening and hearing? WHAT AM I COMMUNICATING? WHAT AM I TEACHING?

I taught the sixth grade at Elk Knob Elementary. Our principal hated chewing gum. The problem at school was not hatred and guns. Chewing gum was. There was a beautiful little girl in kindergarten. Seemed she loved attention. Every morning she would asked her mom for a piece of chewing gum. Later in the morning the teacher would call her name and make her spit the chewing gum out. One morning her mom was out of chewing gum. The girl asked her mom please stop at the store and buy some gum. They did. Later that morning the teacher caught her chewing gum. Seems the girl thrived on the attention she received from getting caught chewing the gum. Often life hides in the communication skills.

TRAINED EAR? WHAT DO YOU HEAR?

I was driving my van down I65 near Nashville with a group of people. Everyone was talking. One man was a retired mechanic. He said he heard a problem that I needed to have checked out? No one else heard it? He had worked on trucks for years, He heard it. He was right. His ear was “trained to hear.”

There was a group of mothers sitting around talking. Their children were playing on the playground. All of a sudden one mom jumped up and started running for toward her child? Why? Out of all the noises around us, that mom heard “her child” above all the other voices. Mom recognized “her child” and knew the call was a distress signal. “A trained ear?”

*LISTEN: listening and hearing may or may not be the same thing. To listen is to receive accurately information, to perceive, sound, to give ear, audible. Can we hear with no sound? learned skill, to hearken, pay attention, choice, concentrate, focus, what it takes for the speaker to be heard and understood, RECEIVE, UNDERSTAND, RESPOND,

Proverbs 8:34 Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT LISTENING? IF WE REALLY LISTEN WE WILL CHANGE.

* Shama is the Hebrew word for listen. Listen can mean hear, pay close attention and or take heed. In the English Standard Bible it is used 265 times. 331 times in NIV. KJV: LISTEN IN VARIOUS FORMS IS USED 1,300 times. To listen signifies more than hearing. In the Bible listening is more than PASSSIVE. It is to take action by to obey. The New Testament is AKOUO, PAY ATTENTION? The more we listen the deeper our love’s root system grow

LISTEN AND OBEY GOD’S WORD. Do we communicate and understand what is said?

Deuteronomy 11:13 And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love the LORD your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,

LISTEN? PAY ATTENTION? COMMUNICATION SKILLS AND LISTENING CAN HAVE MANY GOOD BENEFITS. I DON’T WANT TO LISTEN? MANY EXPECT SOMETHING FOR NOTHING. MANY MIRACLES REQUIRE AN EFFORT TO RECEIVE. HE GAVE EARNEST HEED AND RELEASED A MIRACLE.

There was a certain lame man from birth. He lay daily at the entrance to the temple gate Beautiful. The lame man made a living receiving alms. This day as he lay there something different occurred. The man communicated with Peter and John, the lame man GAVE HEED. HE PAID ATTENTION. His effort was going to bring about a life changing event. PAY ATTENTION: MIRACLES CAN BE RELEASED. The lame man was EXPECTING. He GAVE HEED. The lack of focused listening can impede many miracles.
