Summary: Leading in a word is influence, but before I can lead others, I must lead myself. It's not about what you have, it's about who you are!

What is leadership?

Part 2 is: leading others

· Leading others is the ability to get people to follow willingly, in a word leadership is influence

Part 1 is: Leading self

· Leading self is harder, but it is the first step to great leadership

“The one thing you can’t take away from me is the way I choose to respond to what you do to me. The last of one’s freedoms is to choose one’s attitude in any given circumstance.” - Viktor E. Frankl

Romans 12:2 (VOICE) 2 Do not allow this world to mold you in its own image. Instead, be transformed from the inside out by renewing your mind. As a result, you will be able to discern what God wills and whatever God finds good, pleasing, and complete.

Philippians 2:3 (NIV) 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

Biblical Repentance - to change from an earthly mindset and earthy actions to heavenly or God-directed.

Matthew 20:26-28 (NIV) (Jesus) . . .whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

MY LEADERSHIP with H.I.M. BEGINS WHEN I . . .

HUMBLY DECIDE TO SERVE

Matthew 20:26b (NIV). . .whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,

John 13:12-16 (NIV) 12 When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. 13 “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. 15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. 16 Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17 Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.

Decide to:

· Serve the people I live with

· See the needs in the community

MY LEADERSHIP with H.I.M. BEGINS WHEN I . . .

Humbly decide to serve

IGNORE THE DESIRE TO BE FIRST

Matthew 20:27 (NIV) 27 and whoever wants to be first must be your slave

Philippians 2:5-8 (NIV) 5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!

Fight to:

· Advance others first

· Wait on God to advance me

MY LEADERSHIP with H.I.M. BEGINS WHEN I . . .

Humbly decide to serve

Ignore the desire to be first

MOVE MY LIFE TO A GREATER CAUSE

Matthew 20:28 (NIV) 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Question: Who will be in heaven because of you and your decision to give your life away to a cause that will outlast you?

Revelation 7:9 (NIV) After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands.

John 15:13 (NIV) Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

Greater Cause:

· Love others like Christ

· Invest my life for eternity

Next Step: I will serve others by serving HIM. (Jesus)

ME

Over my life I’ve worked with and for people who I just didn’t like much. When then asked me to do things I just did it because they were my boss but not because I wanted to do a good job.

I’ve also worked with people that I would do anything for them that asked and I wanted to do a great job for them.
