The Power of Jesus

In this passage, we see the power of Jesus displayed in a manner that transcends the natural laws of the world, demonstrating His divine authority over all creation. The disciples, caught in a storm on the Sea of Galilee, are filled with fear and uncertainty. Yet, in the midst of their turmoil, Jesus approaches them, walking on the water. This act alone is a testament to His supernatural power, defying the laws of physics and human capability. Jesus is not bound by the limitations that confine us. His power is limitless, transcending our understanding and expectations.

His command over the elements: When Peter begins to sink, Jesus immediately reaches out His hand and catches him. Following this, when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. This calming of the storm is a clear demonstration of Jesus' power over nature. His command is absolute, and even the wind and waves obey Him. This power is not just physical but also spiritual, as it brings peace and calm in the midst of fear and chaos.

His ability to know and understand the fears and doubts of His disciples: When they first see Him walking on the water, they are terrified, thinking He is a ghost. But Jesus immediately reassures them, saying, "Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid." His power is not just in performing miracles, but also in His ability to comfort, reassure, and instill faith in His followers.

His ability to empower others: When Peter asks to come to Him on the water, Jesus simply says, "Come." With this single word, Peter is able to do the impossible - walk on water. This shows that Jesus' power is not just for His own display, but also to enable His followers to do extraordinary things through faith in Him.

His authority over life and death, sin and salvation: His power is ultimately demonstrated in His sacrificial death on the cross and His resurrection, through which He conquered sin and death, offering salvation to all who believe in Him.

A reality that we can experience in our daily lives: Whether it's in the form of peace in the midst of a storm, strength in times of weakness, or hope in moments of despair, Jesus' power is always at work in our lives.

The Faith of Peter

Peter, one of Jesus' closest disciples, displays a faith that is both bold and fragile, a faith that dares to step out of the boat and yet falters in the face of adversity ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
