JESUS, THE GREATEST DESTINY HELPER
By Rev. Samuel Arimoro
Main Text: Luke 5:4-7
"Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. And when they had this done, they enclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink."
Supporting Texts: John 15:5, Psalm 121:1-2, Philippians 4:13, Hebrews 4:16, Isaiah 41:10
INTRODUCTION
Every man needs a destiny helper—someone who provides guidance, assistance, and support in fulfilling God's purpose. Among all helpers in life, none is greater than Jesus Christ. He is the One who lifts burdens, opens doors, and turns struggles into testimonies. When He steps into a life, everything changes for good.
Peter and his colleagues were experienced fishermen, but they laboured all night without success. However, when Jesus entered the scene, He transformed their situation with just a word. This story is a perfect illustration of how Jesus helps His people navigate their journey of destiny.
Many times, we rely on human connections and personal abilities to succeed. However, true breakthrough comes when we surrender to the help of Jesus, the Greatest Destiny Helper. In this study, we will examine how Jesus helps us fulfil our destinies and how we can align ourselves to receive His divine assistance.
1. JESUS GIVES DIRECTION FOR DESTINY FULFILMENT
One of the greatest challenges in life is knowing the right path to take.
a) Jesus is the way – He is the divine compass for every believer (John 14:6).
b) He gives specific instructions – Peter struggled until he obeyed Jesus' word (Luke 5:4-5).
c) His direction leads to success – Jesus’ guidance never leads to failure (Isaiah 30:21).
d) Following Him removes confusion – Those who follow Jesus walk in light, not darkness (John 8:12).
e) Biblical Example: Abraham – When Abraham obeyed God’s direction, he stepped into his destiny (Genesis 12:1-4).
2. JESUS SUPPLIES SUPERNATURAL HELP IN TIMES OF STRUGGLE
Even when human efforts fail, Jesus provides divine assistance.
a) Human effort has limitations – Peter toiled all night but caught nothing (Luke 5:5).
b) Divine intervention makes the difference – One word from Jesus turned lack into abundance (Luke 5:6).
c) He makes impossibilities possible – What is impossible with men is possible with God (Luke 18:27).
d) Jesus gives help beyond human capacity – The disciples’ nets broke due to the miraculous catch (Luke 5:7).
e) Biblical Example: The wedding at Cana – Jesus turned water into wine when there was no more (John 2:1-11).
3. JESUS CONNECTS US WITH DESTINY PARTNERS
No one fulfils destiny alone; Jesus sends the right people at the right time.
a) Destiny fulfilment requires the right people – Peter needed partners to help carry the harvest (Luke 5:7).
b) Jesus orchestrates divine connections – He brought Peter, James, and John together for kingdom work (Matthew 4:18-22).
c) Right relationships multiply results – Peter alone could not handle the harvest; he needed others (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10).
d) Wrong associations hinder destiny – Some relationships can delay or destroy purpose (Proverbs 13:20).
e) Biblical Example: Ruth and Boaz – Jesus aligned Ruth with Boaz, which changed her destiny (Ruth 2:8-10).
4. JESUS GIVES RESTORATION AFTER FAILURE AND REJECTION
Even after setbacks, Jesus restores those who trust in Him.
a) He does not condemn the broken – Peter had failed, but Jesus gave him another chance (Luke 5:10).
b) He restores lost opportunities – The disciples caught what they had lost during the night (Joel 2:25).
c) He turns rejection into promotion – Peter became a fisher of men after his encounter (Matthew 4:19).
d) His restoration is always greater than the loss – The catch of fish was far beyond Peter’s expectations (Ephesians 3:20).
e) Biblical Example: The Prodigal Son – After wasting his inheritance, Jesus restored him (Luke 15:11-24).
5. JESUS ENSURES ETERNAL DESTINY FULFILMENT
Beyond earthly success, Jesus secures our eternal purpose.
a) The ultimate destiny is eternal life – Without Jesus, all earthly achievements are meaningless (John 3:16).
b) He came to redeem mankind – His primary mission was to restore man to God (Luke 19:10).
c) He prepares a place for His followers – Our destiny is not just on earth but also in eternity (John 14:2-3).
d) Walking with Him guarantees eternal rewards – Those who serve Him will reign with Him forever (Revelation 22:12).
e) Biblical Example: The thief on the cross – Though he was condemned, Jesus secured his eternal destiny (Luke 23:42-43).
