Romans 5:14 (Amplified Bible)
Yet death held sway from Adam to Moses [the Lawgiver], even over those who did not themselves transgress [a positive command] as Adam did. Adam was a type (prefigure) of the One Who was to come [in reverse, the former destructive, the Latter saving].
Romans 5:14 (King James Version)
Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.
A. Death reigned from Adam to Moses
"Yet death held sway from Adam to Moses [the Lawgiver], even over those who did not themselves transgress [a positive command]"
Romans 5:17 (Amplified Bible)
For if because of one man’s trespass (lapse, offense) death reigned through that one, much more surely will those who receive [God’s] overflowing grace (unmerited favor) and the free gift of righteousness [putting them into right standing with Himself] reign as kings in life through the one Man Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).
Romans 5:21 (Amplified Bible)
So that, [just] as sin has reigned in death, [so] grace (His unearned and undeserved favor) might reign also through righteousness (right standing with God) which issues in eternal life through Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One) our Lord.
The root of sin and death influences grew and now Cain, son of adam, wanted to kill his brother instead of becoming his brother's keeper.
Genesis 4:8-9 (Amplified Bible)
And Cain said to his brother, Let us go out to the field. And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.
And the Lord said to Cain, Where is Abel your brother? And he said, I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?
Genesis 7:22 (Amplified Bible)
Everything on the dry land in whose nostrils were the breath and spirit of life died.
Genesis 19:25 (Amplified Bible)
He overthrew, destroyed, and ended those cities, and all the valley and all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground.
Hebrews 9:27 (Amplified Bible)
And just as it is appointed for [all] men once to die, and after that the [certain] judgment,
Before adam and eve will live forever but after their fall, because of adam, all men will have sickness, and death; physical and spiritual death.
Genesis 2:15-17 (Amplified Bible)
And the Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to tend and guard and keep it.
And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, You may freely eat of every tree of the garden;
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and blessing and calamity you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.
B. JESUS CHRIST, figure of adam who was to come
"as Adam did. Adam was a type (prefigure) of the One Who was to come [in reverse, the former destructive, the Latter saving]"
It was the word "was" that was used because the LORD JESUS CHRIST has already came more than 2000 years ago and He was rejected by the Jews, and Gentiles received Him instead.
Figure or "tupos" in Greek language meaning: die, stamp or scar, a shape, a statue, style or resemblance, a sampler, that is a model, instance, form, manner, pattern, print.
ILLUSTRATION:
A sampler is something like the real product but it's limited in quantity. I remember receiving a sampler or a well-known shampoo, yes it can be used, but it's short-lived and usually just a drop not the entire product. Well, in this very limited illustration, to say that adam is a sampler of the real product which is the LORD JESUS CHRIST.
