Jesus Said It, That Settles It! Series
Contributed by Paul Clemente on Dec 5, 2011 (message contributor)
Summary: We live daily with physical truths without questioning; shouldn’t we also live with spiritual truths in the same way?
There are many truths in the physical world to which we live with everyday without thinking about it. For example, if I let go of this mug of coffee, what will happen???
It’s a given that gravity exists and glass will likely break at impact and liquid spilled will spread out! Therefore, I will not let go of this mug of coffee, I will drink it instead!!
What other physical truths can you think of to which we live with without questioning??
Here’s the main point of the message this morning: We live daily with physical truths without questioning; shouldn’t we also live with spiritual truths in the same way?
Please open your Bibles to the Gospel of Luke Chapter 7. The Bible of course is truth because it is the Word of God! And God reveals spiritual truths to us through His Word.
Before reading, let us then pray together our commitment to God’s Word…….
Read along with me Luke 7:1-17……..
What did Jesus say about the Centurion??
Jesus said about the Centurion in v9, “I have not found such great faith even in Israel." The Centurion not only had faith, he had faith greater than anyone amongst God’s people, in Israel!
Did Jesus say this about the Centurion because Jesus healed the centurion’s servant?
Did Jesus say the Centurion had great faith before or after Jesus healed the servant??
We note in v10 that Jesus stated that the Centurion had great faith BEFORE the servant was healed!
Why did Jesus say the Centurion had great faith?
The answer is in v7; The Centurion believed that all Jesus had to do is say the Word! In other words, the Centurion had great faith because all he needed to know was what Jesus’ will was! In the Centurion’s mind, whatever Jesus’ will was, that was it and he would live with it!
And did Jesus care about the widow whose only son died?
We read about Jesus’ compassion in v13……..
And out of Jesus’ compassion, what did Jesus do??
Jesus brought a dead man back to life!
And how did Jesus bring the dead man back to life??
By His spoken word, Jesus brought the dead man back to life!
Have you noted yet that God’s spoken word is power and truth?
And from v16, why did Jesus come to earth??
Jesus came to earth to help His people!
We live daily with physical truths without questioning; shouldn’t we also live with spiritual truths in the same way?
What are the spiritual truths we should live with without questions based on our passage today?
1. Jesus is compassionate and is always with His people to help them!
The question is, do you and I belong to Jesus Christ? Jesus said in John 15:4, “Remain in me, and I will remain in you.” In other words, if we believe in Christ and are in Christ, we belong to Christ! Believe and remain in Christ and He will always be there to help.
2. Jesus has the power to heal!
Know how to pray effectively and pray for healing!
3. Jesus has power of life!
Live with your life in Jesus’ hand!
4. Whatever is Jesus’ will, it will happen!
Please take a moment to quietly ponder about these things.
What is Jesus’ will for you as a Christian?
And make a commitment to Live with these spiritual truths without questions! Questioning these spiritual truths is like questioning gravity……. Hold glass…. Drop glass… a mess!!
Pray to God quietly before we celebrate with Communion…
Jesus told us to remember what He did for us through Communion. If you are a Believer of Christ you are to remember your Savior Jesus Christ.
