INTRODUCTION:
Death is often seen as the end of life, the point of no return. However, in Christ, death is not final—it is only a passage to greater glory. The power of resurrection is at the core of the Christian faith, for without the resurrection of Jesus, there would be no hope of eternal life.
Resurrection is not just about rising from physical death but also about revival in every area of life. Many people experience "dead" situations—dreams that have died, spiritual lives that have withered, businesses that seem hopeless, and relationships that are broken. But the good news is that Jesus is the resurrection and the life!
In this sermon, we will explore five key ways in which Jesus brings resurrection: He resurrects the spiritually dead, revives broken hopes, restores wasted years, raises the physically dead, and guarantees our eternal resurrection.
1. JESUS RESURRECTS THE SPIRITUALLY DEAD
Many people are physically alive but spiritually dead because of sin and separation from God. Jesus came to give us new life in Him.
a) Sin brings spiritual death (Romans 6:23)
Sin separates man from God, leading to spiritual death. Without Jesus, man remains in this dead state.
b) Jesus gives new life (Ephesians 2:1-5)
Through His sacrifice, Jesus makes us alive when we were once dead in sin.
c) We must be born again (John 3:3)
Just as a dead person cannot revive themselves, only Jesus can give us new spiritual life.
d) The Holy Spirit quickens us (Romans 8:11)
When the Spirit of God dwells in us, He brings life to our mortal bodies.
e) Biblical Example: The Prodigal Son (Luke 15:24)
The father said, "This my son was dead and is alive again," showing how Jesus restores the spiritually dead.
2. JESUS RESURRECTS BROKEN HOPES
Life’s disappointments and failures can crush a person’s spirit, leaving them hopeless. But Jesus has the power to resurrect lost hope.
a) Hope deferred makes the heart sick (Proverbs 13:12)
When expectations are delayed or unfulfilled, people can lose hope.
b) Jesus is our living hope (1 Peter 1:3)
Because He lives, we have a reason to hope again.
c) God turns mourning into joy (Psalm 30:5)
Even when things seem dark, God has the power to bring joy and restoration.
d) Nothing is too late for God (John 11:21-23)
Just as Jesus brought back Lazarus, He can restore any situation.
e) Biblical Example: The Two Disciples on the Road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-32)
They had lost hope, but Jesus' resurrection revived their faith.
3. JESUS RESURRECTS WASTED YEARS
Sometimes, people feel as though their years have been wasted due to wrong decisions, setbacks, or losses. But Jesus can restore what was lost.
a) God restores the years lost (Joel 2:25)
He promises to repay the years eaten by the enemy.
b) Jesus makes all things new (Revelation 21:5)
No matter how much time has been lost, Jesus can give a fresh start.
c) The latter days can be greater (Haggai 2:9)
God is able to make the ending of a person’s life more glorious than the beginning.
d) He brings beauty from ashes (Isaiah 61:3)
Even from the worst situations, Jesus can bring something beautiful.
e) Biblical Example: Job’s Restoration (Job 42:10)
After losing everything, God restored Job and gave him twice as much.
4. JESUS RESURRECTS THE PHYSICALLY DEAD
Jesus has power over death itself. He demonstrated this by raising the dead and ultimately rising from the grave.
a) He has conquered death (Revelation 1:18)
Jesus holds the keys of death and the grave.
b) He raised Lazarus (John 11:43-44)
With just a word, Jesus called Lazarus back to life.
c) He raised Jairus’ daughter (Mark 5:41-42)
Even in a hopeless situation, Jesus restored life.
d) He Himself rose from the grave (Matthew 28:6)
His resurrection is proof that death is not final for those who believe.
e) Biblical Example: The Widow’s Son at Nain (Luke 7:11-15)
Jesus saw her sorrow and brought her son back to life, showing His compassion.
5. JESUS GUARANTEES OUR ETERNAL RESURRECTION
The greatest promise Jesus gives us is that all who believe in Him will be raised to eternal life.
a) The dead in Christ will rise first (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17)
At the sound of the trumpet, believers will be resurrected.
b) We shall receive a new body (1 Corinthians 15:51-53)
Mortality will be replaced with immortality.
c) Eternal life is promised to all believers (John 3:16)
The resurrection of Jesus is proof that we have eternal life in Him.
