This sermon encourages embracing dependence on God as our steady stone, acknowledging the peace found in His presence, and committing to live the Christian ideal.

Introduction

Good morning, my dear brothers and sisters. It's a blessing to be with you all today. We gather here, not as strangers, but as a family, bound by the love of our Savior. Today, we stand on the threshold of a new revelation, a fresh understanding of our faith and our relationship with Jesus.

Opening Scripture Reading – As we open our hearts and minds, let's turn to Psalm 16, verses 2 and 3. It reads, "I say to the Lord, 'You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing.' I say of the holy people who are in the land, 'They are the noble ones in whom is all my delight.'"

In these verses, we find a comforting truth. Our Lord is not just a distant deity. He is our rock, our refuge, our steady stone. As we depend on Him, He delivers us from our trials and tribulations. And in His presence, we find a peace that surpasses all understanding.

G.K. Chesterton once said, "The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting. It has been found difficult and left untried." Today, we will not leave it untried. We will lean into the difficult, into our dependence, and into the peace that comes from knowing Jesus.

Jesus, the Steady Stone

When we consider the nature of a stone, we see something solid, unchanging, and reliable. It's a foundation that can withstand the elements, a refuge that provides shelter, a marker that guides our way. In the same way, Jesus is our steady stone. He is the foundation upon which we build our lives, the refuge where we find safety, and the marker that guides our path. His presence is constant, His love is unchanging, and His promises are reliable.

A. Just as a stone provides a solid foundation, so does Jesus provide a solid foundation for our lives. He is the bedrock upon which we can build a life of faith. His teachings guide our actions, His love shapes our hearts, and His sacrifice secures our salvation. When we build our lives on Him, we can withstand the storms of life. We can face trials with courage, endure hardships with patience, and navigate change with grace. Because no matter what happens, we know that our foundation is secure.

B. In the same way that a stone offers refuge, Jesus offers us a place of safety. He is our shelter in the storm, our fortress in the battle, our hiding place in times of trouble. In His presence, we find protection from the enemy, comfort in our sorrow, and strength in our weakness. He is our refuge, not because He removes us from our circumstances, but because He walks with us through them. He doesn't promise a life free from trouble, but He does promise to be with us in the midst of it.

C. Just as a stone can serve as a marker, guiding our way, so does Jesus guide our path. He is the light that illuminates our darkness, the shepherd who leads us to green pastures, the gate that opens the way to eternal life. His Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path, guiding us in the way we should go. When we follow Him, we can navigate the complexities of life with wisdom, make decisions with confidence, and walk in the path of righteousness.
