Summary: Today, I want us to think about different 3 R's. The 3 R's I am talking about are the 3 R's that stand for the choices that each of us must make about Jesus. The first R is for REJECT.
"Jesus and the Three R's"
Scripture: The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. John 1:1
19 more days till Christmas and even less till you will be out of school for the holidays. Are you guys excited about that? Sometimes schools will refer to 3 things they teach that are important. They call them the 3 R’s. This refers to Reading, Riting, and 'Rithmetic. Two of thjose don’t actually start with an R.
Today, I want us to think about different 3 R's. The 3 R's I am talking about are the 3 R's that stand for the choices that each of us must make about Jesus. The first R is for REJECT. When faced with the choice of what to do with Jesus, many people choose to reject him. The Bible says that Jesus came to his own people, but his own people refused to believe that he was the Son of God. They refused to believe that he was who he said he was. They chose to reject Jesus. Even today, many people still choose to reject Jesus.
The second R is for RECEIVE. Some people choose to receive Jesus and believe in his name. The Bible tells us that “to those who receive him, he gives the right to become the children of God.” You and I can choose to receive Jesus, and when we do, we are given the right to become the children of God.
The third R is for REFLECT. If we see our reflection in a mirror it tells us what we look like. Jesus came to be born in a stable to show us what God is like. We have seen what God looks like through Jesus and now we have to make a choice whether we will receive Him or reject Him. .
Jesus came to show us what God is like. I heard of a young boy who was playing outside one day and he and his friends saw a group of ants going in a straight line and they were going right off the edge of the sidewalk….every one of them. He watched and he tried to figure out and way to help them. He started yelling at them telling them not to do that. All they had to do was turn around and go the other way but they wouldn’t listen. Finally he realized that they couldn’t understand him. And he said I guess if I am going to get them to listen I am going to have to become an ant and go down there and show them what to do.
God did that for us. He tried to talk to mankind and we wouldn’t listen and one day He came down and became like us…the WORD became flesh and began to live among us. I’m glad He did that because now I know what He is like.
Dear Father, for those who have not yet chosen to receive Jesus and believe in him, we pray that they will make that choice today. For those of us who have chosen to receive him, may our lives reflect his glory in all that we do and say. In Jesus name we pray. Amen
