Jesus And His Eyes! Series

AS a teenager, I will never forget when our Sunday School class toured our church pastor's study room. He pointed to the picture of Jesus, behind the desk, just the face with some dark tones, and looked very old. He said to the class, "Now, want you to keep your eyes on the eyes of Jesus, focus on them and then walk around the room, keeping your eyes on Jesus, what do you see?" Our answers were all the same. The eyes of Jesus were focused on us, as though He is watching us.

Years ago, Dwight L. Moody preached a sermon on Jesus saying, "I do not think of Jesus as a Secret Service or a Judge, or the FBI keeping a watch on our every move, No, Jesus loves you so much that He doesn't want to take His eye off of you.!" Not from a mountain, but from Heaven, He is watching us!

God, of the Old Testament, speaks of His eyes in Exodus, 3:7. "I have heard their crying out because of their slave drivers So I have come down and rescued them." God saw their tears! Jesus as the Son of God in the NT sees the tears of His people and rescued them.

First as as read the shortest verse of the Bible, "Jesus wept." (John 11:35) When the crowd immediately saw the eyes of Jesus, they said, "Look see how He loved them," Them meant everyone! Lazarus, Mary and Martha and the whole community. Jesus was crying because they were crying! Watching the TV program, "Extreme Makeover" is about a community coming together and building a house in 7 days. The family honored sees the finish product with tears of joy and yours truly as well. Jesus has tears of joy when we cry too!

We see the eyes of Jesus again as he draws closer to the last days of His ministry. Overlooking the city of Jerusalem from the Mt of Olives, "He saw city and He wept over it." (Luke 19:41) If they would have only known Him, but they were sheep without a Shepherd. This is their last opportunity for them to follow Jesus. He saw their future destruction of the city and He weeps for them.

Then we see the eyes of Jesus in His praying as described in Hebrews 5:7, "Jesus offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears.." Maybe this is referring to the Garden of Gethsemane prayer. as He prays for us," Father, forgive them for they know not what they do." Or the prayer of unity for His disciples as in John 17.

CONCLUSION:

When we look into the eyes of Jesus, we know He loves very much and will rescue us.

When we look into the eyes of Jesus, He sees our future, what does He see in yours?

When we look into the eyes of Jesus, He promised to wipe away all tears from our eyes. Amen.
