Series: Biblical Cities- Jerusalem [#25]

JERUSALEM- CONFUSED ABOUT JESUS

Matthew 23:37

Introduction:

We are continuing in our Series about the most mentioned City in the Bible- Jerusalem.

Matthew 23:37

Last week, we studied Jesus teaching about not judging by appearances. Jesus continued speaking to them about who He was and His purpose.

John 7:25-27

1. Many are confused about who Jesus is.

There were many people in Jerusalem for the Festival and there was much talk about who Jesus was. We live in a time that many people are confused about who Jesus is.

Some said that…

* The Messiah would just show up.

There were many people who did not believe that the Messiah would come from a place that they knew. Jesus was from Nazareth, and they did not believe that the Messiah would come from Nazareth. If they would have listened to the Prophets, they would have know that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem, as Jesus was.

Some said that…

* Jesus was a good man.

Jesus was more than just a good man. Him being a good guy would not be enough to save the World.

Some said that…

* Jesus was leading people astray.

Jesus had been accused of working with and for the devil. The Religious Leaders believed that Jesus was leading people astray because He would not go along with what they said and did.

John 7:28-30

2. We must believe the truth about who Jesus is.

Jesus shouted out in the Temple to the people that they did know who He was.

* Jesus testified that He was sent here by God.

To be sent by God means that Jesus…

* Is eternal.

* Was under the full authority of God the Father.

* Was under God the Father’s protection.

John 7:31-32

3. Your eternal destination depends on believing in Jesus.

There is only 1 way to salvation- That is through Jesus. This truth always upsets the devil and his workers. The chief priests and the Pharisees wanted to arrest Him.

Conclusion:

There are still many people who are confused about who Jesus is. They hear so many things that they are not sure who to believe. We must lift up Jesus to the World.
