IT SHALL BE WELL AND IT IS WELL

Text: 2 Kgs. 4: 18-23

8 And when the child was grown, it fell on a day, that he went out to his father to the reapers. 19 And he said unto his father, My head, my head. And he said to a lad, Carry him to his mother. 20 And when he had taken him, and brought him to his mother, he sat on her knees till noon, and then died. 21 And she went up, and laid him on the bed of the man of God, and shut the door upon him, and went out. 22 And she called unto her husband, and said, Send me, I pray thee, one of the young men, and one of the asses, that I may run to the man of God, and come again. 23 And he said, Wherefore wilt thou go to him to day? it is neither new moon, nor sabbath. And she said, It shall be well. 2 Kings 4:18-23

Introduction

There are several things that the word well is used for both in the bible and in the normal daily life. If you look at it the word well is something worth praying about. The word well is associated with many good things and conditions of life. This shot sermon is to encourage you to pray that your situations and condition will be well. I beg you to please not just read this sermon but also to follow the prayer points attached to each of the segments of the sermon.

The Well as a spring of water.

What is a well? a hole drilled or bored into the earth to obtain water. Well is normally dug in areas where there is no easy access to water like from the river or natural springs. Therefore in some communities there might be only one well that serves them or that serves several houses. Sometimes a whole community might just be lucky to find one well springing out water at all times. To such a community, that well becomes a source of life that must be jealously guarded because water is life.

One the reason why Lot was tempted to go to Sodom was because the land had natural waters.

And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar. Genesis 13:10

During wars the first thing that the enemy wanted to do was to stop the source of water to a community by either taken the water as spoil of war or by filling the well with sand and completely stop it from flowing. When the well is taken by the enemy it won’t belongs before the community will surrender to their enemy. Man can still go a longer days without food but not without water.

For all the wells which his father's servants had digged in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped them, and filled them with earth. Genesis 26:15

When the enemy wants to punish a person they might not attack him directly but they will want to attack those who are supporting him in order to make him vulnerable to shame and final destruction. The well of your life might be the people that have been supporting you to exist or it might be the material things that support your livelihood. When Jesus was arrested it affected those who have been following him more that Jesus that was taken.

And Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered Mark 14:27.

Is there anything that youe enemies have taken from you or that are struggling to take? Let’s pray about it!

PART TWO

WELL AS IN WHOLESOMENESS

In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live. 2 Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto the LORD, saying, 3 I beseech thee, O LORD, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore. 4 And it came to pass, afore Isaiah was gone out into the middle court, that the word of the LORD came to him, saying, 5 Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the LORD 2 Kings 20:1-5
