Explore God's promise of strength and victory, and the power of unwavering faith.
Good morning, church family! It's a beautiful day to gather together and dive into God's word. Today, we're going to explore a powerful passage from the Book of Joshua, a passage that reminds us of God's promise of strength, the power of faith, and the hope of victory we have in Him.
Before we get started, let me share with you a statement from Mother Teresa. She said, "Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies." That's a great reminder for us today as we look at Joshua 1:3.
The Scripture tells us,
"I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses."
God was speaking directly to Joshua, but His promise also extends to us today.
Let's open this time in prayer.
Heavenly Father, thank you for this day, and for the opportunity to gather and study Your word. Open our hearts and minds to understand Your promises, to grasp the power of faith, and to embrace the hope we have in Your victory. Amen.
Now, let's dive into this message and see what the Lord wants to reveal to us today.
The promise of strength from God is a recurring theme throughout the Bible, and it is a promise that is as relevant today as it was in the days of Joshua.
Not a guarantee of an easy life/a life without challenges: In fact, the Bible is full of stories of God's people facing incredible challenges and difficulties. But in each of these stories, we see God's strength shining through. We see His strength in the courage of David as he faces Goliath, in the endurance of Job as he suffers, and in the boldness of Esther as she risks her life to save her people.
Not only physical power or might: It is also about inner strength - the strength of character, the strength of faith, the strength of perseverance. It is the strength that enables us to stand firm in our faith, to persevere in the face of trials, and to overcome the challenges that life throws at us.
A promise of His presence: God's strength is not something we have to generate on our own. It is not something we have to strive for or earn. It is a gift that God freely gives to those who trust in Him.
A promise of victory: What God tells Joshua is a promise of victory, but it is also a promise that requires action. Joshua had to step out in faith, to set his foot on the land, in order to claim the victory that God had promised.
For the everyday struggles and challenges: It is for the times when we feel overwhelmed, when we feel like giving up, when we feel like we can't go on. In those moments, God's promise of strength is a lifeline, a beacon of hope, a reminder that we are not alone, that we are not powerless, and that we are not defeated.
A promise that we can cling to: It’s a promise that we can rely on, a promise that we can build our lives on. It is a promise that gives us hope, that gives us courage, that gives us confidence. It is a promise that empowers us to live boldly, to live fearlessly, to live victoriously.
