When we look at these verses, it expressions the principles on which of the rest of this chapter is built on. In order to understand the exhortation, we need to understand the principle; and to appreciate the principles, we need to review what the people of that day talked about, we need to know exactly what the Jews said and thought about Moses.
Here we will get a chance to see how Jesus is better than Moses. And to really know the degree of how Jesus is better than Moses, we need to see how important Moses was even before this episode. But I guess a better question to ask even before we visit any of the facts that Jesus is better than Moses, we need to know; why it is even essential, vital, and critical to prove that Jesus is better than Moses.
Because by the way, we know that Moses was revered and respected by the Jews more than any other Jew who ever lived. His resumé speaks volume about who he was, because if we remember God had astoundingly and remarkably sheltered him as a baby, for it was God had personally made provision for Moses burial. And sandwich in the middle of his birth and has burial, are actual miracles after miracles after miracles. I mean after all this was the same man to whom God talked to face to face on the mountain. It was this Moses who seen the glory of God. It was Moses, that felt the presence of God on the Mount of Sinai, and it was such of an impact that after he came down from Sinai, the Bible says that: The skin on his face shone because of his speaking with Him", because he interacted with God, there was a differences upon the face of Moses because he had intermingled with God. In fact, Exodus 34:29 says: And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses’ hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him.
I need to tell someone this morning that any time that you have had an interaction, contact, or an exchange with God it would show up in your life!!!!
Moses was somebody:
It was this Moses, that guided the Israel out of Egypt.
It was this Moses, who was synonymous with the Old Law.
It was Moses, who had the Ten Commandments.
It was Moses, who arranged the Levitical laws.
It was Moses, who gave the plans for the Tabernacle.
It was Moses, who introduced the Ark of the Covenant! In fact, Moses had such an impact that the New Testament even refers to the commands of God, as the "law of Moses"
Moses was somebody.
In fact, some of the Jews alleged to the fact that Moses was greater than some of the Prophet because God spoke to the prophets in visions, but God interacted with and spoke to Moses face to face:
Remember how He spoke to him in a burning bush?
He spoke to him out of heaven.
He spoke to him on Sinai and how he wrote the commandments with a finger of fire. Some say that (Moses) was the most remarkable and noteworthy man that had ever lived. Yes, Moses was somebody.
Yet, in this passage of Hebrews the Holy Spirit calls on the Jewish readers, to look at Jesus. Moses was undeniably, unquestionably, and incontestably great; but Jesus is grandly greater. Jesus is shown to be superior to Moses in office, in work, and in person:
In His office, He is the Apostle and High Priest.
In His work, He is the Builder of the house.
In His Person, He is the Son of God.
So, as the writer deals with the extravagant claims being addressed on the behalf of Moses, and he indications that in nature, relation to God, and the office, still we see that Christ is altogether exceeding and atop who Moses is.
In this chapter three he says in the first verse, it is his desire, to commence an introduction to Jesus, and how He is superior. He recognizes and admits that Moses as a person who is awesome during this time and period, but he also points out the fact that Christ as the head of this era.
The writer parallels them in verse 2, and then he shows us the
dissimilarities in verse three and verse five. He tells us that Moses and Christ were both authentic in their faithfulness, and what I love about this author is that the author does not have to put down, talk about and make Moses look bad in order to lift Christ up. Because you know that there are some people that will always put others down in other to try and make themselves look good?
