Summary: This sermon reflects on the first two verses in Isaiah 52.

How many people would say that they enjoy being asleep? On the other hand how many people would say that they enjoy being awake? It is safe to say that you can do more for God when you are awake then when you are asleep. When you are awake you know what is going on around you, and you are aware of your surroundings. Now, when you are sleep you really do not have control over your mind, or the things around you. Nor, can you really do things for God when you are asleep. From the very first verse in Isaiah 52 we are told to AWAKE. Isaiah 52:1-3 reads as this:

Awake, awake; put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city: for henceforth there shall no more come into thee the uncircumcised and the unclean. 2 Shake thyself from the dust; arise, and sit down, O Jerusalem: loose thyself from the bands of thy neck, O captive daughter of Zion.

The first thing we are told to do is to awake, with this being known the reader can automatically assume that the person or persons were asleep. You can also say that the person or persons were feeling down about themselves. Whatever the reason may be, you can say without a doubt, that the person was being told to wake up. If we are feeling down about anything or we are in any kind of sorrow, today is the day that we should wake up and come out of that stage of sorrow. For your time of sorrow is over, and it is time to recieve your strength again.

If you were in sorrow of any kind, it was meant to last just for a little while. God still has a plan for you to do, so arise and continue on your journey. For your journey is not over, just your time of sorrow is over. Ask God to give you the strength to continue on with the journey, and to remove the sorrow from within. Let us not forget that sorrow can only weigh us down on the journey, it cannot encourage us to complete the journey at hand.

Dear God, thank you for who you are, thank you for the message today. God, please remove any kind of sorrow that we may have, so that we may continue to do your work. Thank you God for allow us to have more good days than we do bad. It’s in Jesus’ name we pray AMEN!
