IS GOD FOR YOU?

Text: Romans 8: 31-39 (“for” Gr. Huper in behalf of)

This is an interesting thought here.

If God be for us, who can be against us?

Luke 10:19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

This is a promise given by Jesus to His disciples.

It seems that sometimes we go through life with a defeated attitude.

And to some rightly so. God is not for them.

People who have never accepted Jesus, or people who have and then rejected Him, miss out on the sovereign nature of God.

They are open to attack, with no defense.

As we look to the Word, we will see that there are certain criteria for God to be for you.

We will also see who God is not for.

Finally we will ask the question:

Is God For You?

I. Who Is God For?

A. Those that seek Him with their whole heart.

Jeremiah 24:7 And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the LORD: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart.

Deuteronomy 4:29 But if from thence thou shall seek the LORD thy God, thou shall find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.

2 Chronicles 16:9 For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shall have wars.

B. Those that are obedient to Him.

Deuteronomy 4:30-31 When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come upon thee, even in the latter days, if thou turn to the LORD thy God, and shall be obedient unto his voice; (For the LORD thy God is a merciful God;) he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he swore unto them.

De 28:2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shall hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.

C. Those that fear Him.

Psalms 115:11 Ye that fear the LORD, trust in the LORD: he is their help and their shield.

Psalms 115:13 He will bless them that fear the LORD, both small and great.

II. Who Isn’t God For?

A. There are some that God is not for.

Pr 6:16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that devises wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaks lies, and he that sows discord among brethren.

B. There are people in Churches today that God is not for! But He will be.

C. Repent of our wicked ways.

III. If God Be For You.

A. His power is revealed to those around you.

Isaiah 52:10 The LORD hath made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.

B. The enemy is defeated.

Isaiah 54:17 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, says the LORD.

C. You not only shall, you have overcome.

Romans 8:37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

Revelation 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

1 John 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

Conclusion: Is God for you?

If we know that he isn’t and don’t respond, then He won’t be.

But if we know that He is, then we need to act like it.

If God is for you nothing can stand against you.

There is no power can conquer you if God is on your side.

The great thing is, He wants to be for you.
