In The Midnight Hour

Summary: Sermon that I preached for a Pastor friend during a tragedy in his life.
20 and when they had brought them unto the magistrates, they said, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city,
21 and set forth customs which it is not lawful for us to receive, or to observe, being Romans.
22 And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent their garments off them, and commanded to beat them with rods.
23 And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely:
24 who, having received such a charge, cast them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.
25 But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns unto God, and the prisoners were listening to them; (When you are in the midnight hour, there are those around you that are observing how you approach the darkness…are we singing and praying or are we staying prisoners of our darkness?)
26 and suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison-house were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed.
27 And the jailor, being roused out of sleep and seeing the prison doors open, drew his sword and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped.
28 But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here. (Praise the Lord Paul didn’t escape, he praised the Lord for his delivery and commenced to do what he was called to do and that was share Jesus! When we come out of our midnight hour, praise Jesus! Let people know the deliverer! Let people know your source of light!
John 9:2-3
2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Rabbi, who sinned, this man, or his parents, that he should be born blind?
3 Jesus answered, Neither did this man sin, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. (In other words Jesus is saying that no one sinned to cause this midnight hour, it is here because I have a work to do. I believe strongly that our midnight hour’s are for God’s glory and our deliverance from them is to let those know that he is the light that shines in the darkness, but verse 4 says, however there will come a time, when it is no longer required, and that is when he returns and we are called to glory for eternity.
Some of us are in the midnight hour right now, we have gotten the Dr’s report and it doesn’t look good. Let’s take a look at what Hezekiah does when he gets the poor Dr.s report from Dr. Isaiah. Turn your bible to 2 Kings Chapter 20, verse 1.
20:1 In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith Jehovah, Set thy house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live. (Hezekiah was told he was about to depart this earth)
Verse 2 and 3
2 Kings 20:2-3
2 Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto Jehovah, saying,
3 Remember now, O Jehovah, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore. (He said God you know I have walked faithful and kept the faith, and wept bitterly, turning is head according to some scholars, facing away from those around him and turning his head toward the temple)
