INTRODUCTION
The Bible opens with a powerful declaration that settles all arguments about origins, authority, and purpose: “In the beginning God.” Before time, matter, light, or life existed, God already was. This statement establishes God as the uncreated Creator, the One who precedes history and defines reality itself.
Many people attempt to start life, plans, and destinies without God, only to experience confusion, struggle, and collapse. Genesis 1:1 teaches us that when God is excluded from the beginning, disorder is inevitable. Every lasting work must have God as its foundation.
This message calls us back to divine order. Whether it is life, ministry, marriage, career, or destiny, restoration begins when God is returned to His rightful place. When God is first, everything else finds balance and alignment.
1. GOD IS THE ETERNAL SOURCE OF ALL THINGS
God did not come from anywhere; He is self-existent and eternal. Everything that exists draws its origin and sustenance from Him.
a) God exists before time (Psalm 90:2)
God is not bound by time; He created time itself. This assures us that no situation is too old or too late for Him to handle.
b) Creation flows from God’s power (Hebrews 11:3)
The visible world came from the invisible God. This teaches us that spiritual authority precedes physical manifestation.
c) God is independent of creation (Isaiah 40:28)
God does not depend on anything He created. Therefore, our faith rests on a God who never runs out of strength or wisdom.
d) God sustains what He creates (Colossians 1:17)
Creation continues because God upholds it. What God begins, He has the power to maintain.
Biblical Example:
God revealed Himself to Moses as “I AM THAT I AM” (Exodus 3:14), declaring His eternal and self-existent nature before commissioning Moses for deliverance.
2. GOD MUST BE FIRST IN EVERY BEGINNING
Genesis shows us that proper order starts when God is placed first. Anything begun without Him risks frustration and failure.
a) God demands first place (Matthew 6:33)
Seeking God first aligns every other pursuit. Priority determines productivity in the kingdom.
b) Beginnings determine outcomes (Ecclesiastes 10:8)
Wrong foundations eventually produce negative results, even if the start looks promising.
c) God-directed beginnings carry blessing (Proverbs 3:5-6)
When God leads the start, He also directs the path and secures the end.
d) Human effort without God leads to toil (Psalm 127:1)
Labour without God’s involvement results in stress rather than success.
Biblical Example:
The Tower of Babel (Genesis 11:1-9) was a project started without God, and it ended in confusion and scattering.
3. GOD’S WORD INITIATES CREATION AND CHANGE
God created not by struggle but by His Word. The same Word that formed the world still produces transformation today.
a) God creates by speaking (Genesis 1:3)
Light appeared when God spoke. His Word has creative force.
b) God’s Word brings order out of chaos (Psalm 33:6)
Confusion bows when God’s Word is released.
c) God’s Word cannot fail (Isaiah 55:10-11)
Whatever God speaks must accomplish its assignment.
d) Faith responds to God’s Word (Romans 10:17)
Faith is born when the Word is heard, believed, and acted upon.
Biblical Example:
Jesus calmed the storm by speaking (Mark 4:39), demonstrating that divine words still rule over natural chaos.
4. GOD CREATES WITH PURPOSE AND DESTINY
Nothing God creates is accidental. Purpose is embedded in creation from the beginning.
a) God creates intentionally (Isaiah 45:18)
God did not create the earth empty; He formed it to be inhabited and fruitful.
b) Humanity was created with dominion (Genesis 1:26-28)
God designed man to rule, not to be ruled by circumstances.
c) God assigns identity before assignment (Jeremiah 1:5)
Before function comes identity. Knowing who you are clarifies what you are called to do.
d) God completes what He starts (Philippians 1:6)
Divine beginnings always move toward divine completion.
Biblical Example:
God created Adam with purpose and immediately gave him responsibility over creation, showing that destiny follows divine design.
CONCLUSION
“In the beginning God” is more than a Bible opening; it is a life principle. Whenever God is acknowledged as the source, leader, and sustainer, order replaces chaos and purpose replaces confusion.
This message is a call to realignment. Whatever area of life has been struggling must be handed back to God. When God becomes the beginning again, He also guarantees a glorious ending.
