In The Beginning.... Genesis 1:1 Series

Please grab a Bible. What do we have in our hands??

The Bible is the Word of God! God breathed out His words through men and God decided to have His words written. God called Moses to write the first five books of the Bible. What are the first 4 words of the Bible????

In the beginning God! The Bible is about God!

Please open your bibles to the beginning. Genesis 1, v1…..

What does “In the beginning” mean?

Time as we know it started in the beginning.

Does this mean God started at that time?

The verse states “In the beginning God created………”

God already existed in the beginning of time.

This is like me saying, “Last Tuesday I started working on this message.”

I already existed before Tuesday to start something new.

God already existed before beginning to create.

And God created the heavens and the earth, in the beginning.

What is the heavens and the earth?

Let me ask you a question: What did God create first, the heavens or the earth?

Let us read verses 2-19………...

Which came first, the earth or the sun?

Read v2-3 again.… Which came first, the earth or the sun??

The earth was here, then God said, “Let there be light!”

Verse 1 is a summary and a title for v2-19.

The earth was here before the sun!!

And look again at v14-15…………..

God created the earth, then the sun, then the rest of the universe!! This is an amazing truth! Before God created the entire universe, He thought of you and me first by creating our home planet!

God’s creation of everything is for the love of us!

Let’s take a moment to quietly pray to God for His amazing power and love for us…………………….

Now, what is our understanding of time??

Time as we know it is based on the rotation of the earth on its axis and its rotation around the sun.

Time started when God created the universe. This year is a leap year. Does anybody why?? Leap year is established by man! We have a “leap year” to catch up with God!

God is in control of time!

There was no such thing as time before God created the universe.

What existed before the universe and time?

God created the heavens and the earth in the beginning.

The Word of God tells us, only God existed before the heavens and the earth, and before time!

Scientists today will tell you that the universe has no edges! The universe is limitless! Our God is greater than this limitless universe! God exists beyond time and the entire universe! Is this an incomprehensible truth?

Again, scientists will tell you that if you go faster than the speed of light, time will no longer exist!

Scientists are actually proving truths about God!

But sadly, many scientists just don’t want to believe because they don’t want to bow down to God.

How about you and me? Are we truly bowing down to God who is greater than time and space?

Before the heavens and the earth, God existed. And God exists today and will continue to exist even without the earth or the universe!

God exists! How do we know?

There are several “proofs” that God exists:

1. Every known thing has a cause.

The cause of such a vast universe must be God.

2. Evidences of harmony, order, and design proves an intelligent Creator God. Isn’t it interesting that some people are offended when you say “Merry Christmas!” But most people will accept “May the Force be with you!”

3. There must be something “greater” than human beings.

If the world was left solely to man, we would destroy it!

4. Every person has an inner sense that God exists.

If we just evolved, why should I care who I hurt?

If you believe in “survival of the fittest”, why stop “bullies”?

5. The Bible can prove it is God’s Word.

The Bible is about God!

God will always exist and He does not need the earth, the universe, time, or people.

God will always exist and He does not need anything!

But God decided to create the earth, the universe, time, and people. Why?

Because God is love!

And God reveals Himself in many ways to demonstrate His love.

We can read in His Word in Romans 5:8, “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Who is Christ? Christ is part of the Triune God who is One.

Jesus Christ eternally existed with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ who is God became fully man, suffered, died, was buried but rose again for the redemption of those who believe in Him.

Not believing in Jesus Christ means going against God and a Holy God has no choice but to judge non-believers.
