I HIS PATTERN FOR LIFE

John 13:15 I have set you an example, in order that you too may practice what I have done to you. [Williams]

a. His Aim – To Please The Father

John 17:4 I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do.

b. Our Aim – Brings Joy

John 13:17 Happy are you, who know these things, provided you practice them. [Living Oracle]

II HIS PAIN IN DEATH

Hebrews 12:2 Our eyes fixed on Jesus, the guide and end of our faith, who went through the pains of the cross, not caring for the shame, because of the joy which was before him. [BBE]

a. Before The Cross - In The Garden

Luke 22:44 Being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

Agony: Strong’s - agwnia agonia ag-o-nee’-ah

1) a struggle for victory - wrestling

b. On The Cross - Alone

Matthew 27:46 “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"

III HIS POWERFUL RESURRECTION

John 10:17 & 18 I am loved by the Father, because I give up my life so that I may take it again. 18 No one takes it away from me; I give it up of myself. I have power to give it up, and I have power to take it again. [BBE]

a. Resurrection Power Over Death And Hell

Revelation 1:18 I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.

b. Resurrection Power Through Faith

John 14:12 I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.

IV HIS PROMISED RETURN

Revelation 22:12 See, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give to every man the outcome of his works. [BBE]

a. Returning To Judge and Reward

I Corinthians 4:5 Judge nothing before the appointed time; wait till the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of men’s hearts. At that time each will receive his praise from God.

b. Resulting Outcome Of The Promise

I John 3:3 Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.
