Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
What if there were no Christmas?
Today, let's consider the significance of Christmas and what life would be like without it. Imagine a world where Christmas did not exist. No family gatherings, no holiday traditions, no Christmas gifts, carols, decorations, or trees. The absence of Christmas would mean no cherished memories and no special moments to look forward to. It would also mean children attending school throughout December, without the joy and excitement that Christmas brings. Christmas holds a special place in our hearts, and its absence would leave a void in our lives.
If Christmas had never happened, the world would be vastly different. The birth of Jesus brought about a profound change in society. His teachings emphasized love for God and our neighbors, leading to the invention of organized charity. Early Christian communities prioritized supporting the vulnerable, caring for the sick, and establishing hospitals. Throughout history, Christians have founded numerous charitable organizations that have made a positive impact on the world.
Education is another area greatly influenced by Christmas. Many renowned universities, such as Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, and Yale, were founded by Christians. These institutions initially aimed to provide education rooted in Christian values. It is remarkable to think that these universities, which now teach various subjects including evolution, were originally established as Christian institutions.
The most significant aspect of Christmas is the birth of Jesus Christ. He came to Earth as a vulnerable human being, demonstrating God's immense love for us. John 3:16 beautifully captures this love: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." It is difficult for us to comprehend the depth of God's love for us, but through Jesus, we can experience His love firsthand.
Just as children eagerly unwrap their presents on Christmas morning, God desires us to open the gift of salvation He offers. This unique gift grants us fellowship with Jesus and eternal life. God longs for all His children to accept this gift and experience communion with Him. Luke 15:7 reminds us that there is great joy in heaven when even one sinner repents.
Christmas holds immense importance in our lives. It is a time of celebration, love, and giving. As Christians, we must stand firm in our faith, especially in a world that challenges our beliefs. We are called to live holy lives, guided by the Holy Spirit. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we can overcome our weaknesses and live according to God's will.
If you have not yet accepted God's gift of salvation, I urge you to do so today. Don't delay, for none of us are guaranteed tomorrow. Additionally, if you have not received the Holy Spirit, I encourage you to invite Him into your life. The Holy Spirit empowers us to live a life pleasing to God and brings us closer to Him.
Remember, Christmas may be over, but God's love for us never ends. Embrace the significance of Christmas and let it inspire you to live a life filled with love, compassion, and faith.
