This sermon encourages confronting life's crises with faith in Christ, claiming our identity in Him, and finding courage amidst struggles through His strength and wisdom.

Introduction

Welcome, dear family in Christ. Gather around, as we gather our hearts and minds to engage with the divine wisdom of the Scriptures, the timeless truths of God's Word. Today, we turn our attention to an extraordinary passage from the Old Testament, a passage that speaks with a resonance that echoes into our present day, into our very hearts and lives. We find ourselves in the book of 1 Kings, chapter 19.

Opening Scripture Reading – Let's read it together: "And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, also how he had executed all the prophets with the sword. Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, 'So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time.' And when he saw that, he arose and ran for his life, and went to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there. But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he prayed that he might die, and said, 'It is enough! Now, Lord, take my life, for I am no better than my fathers!'"

What a powerful passage! It's a passage that speaks to the heart of human struggle, the depths of despair, and the hope that is found in God alone. It's a passage that reminds us that even the prophets of old, the giants of faith, had moments of fear, moments when they felt overwhelmed by their circumstances.

Confronting Crisis with Christ

Our first point is "Confronting Crisis with Christ." We all face crises in our lives, moments when we feel overwhelmed, moments when we feel like Elijah under the broom tree. How do we confront these crises? How do we find hope in the midst of despair? We find it in Christ, our rock and our redeemer.

A. Now, let's think about Elijah. He was a man of God. He was a prophet. He spoke God's truth to a world that didn't want to hear it. He stood up to kings and queens. He performed miracles. And yet, here he is, running for his life, hiding in the wilderness, praying for death. Why? Because he was human. Because he was afraid. Because he felt alone. Because he felt like he had failed.

B. But here's the thing. Elijah wasn't alone. God was with him. God heard his prayer. God saw his pain. God knew his heart. And God had a plan.

Application – Now, let's think about our own lives. We all face crises. We all have moments when we feel overwhelmed, when we feel like we can't go on, when we feel like we're all alone. We all have moments when we feel like Elijah under the broom tree. But here's the thing. We're not alone, too. God is with us. God hears our prayers. God sees our pain. God knows our hearts. And God has a plan.

So, how do we confront these crises? How do we find hope in the midst of despair? We find it in Christ, our rock and our redeemer.

C. Christ is our Savior. He is our Lord. He is our rock. He is our redeemer. He is the one who gives us hope in the midst of despair, who gives us strength in the midst of weakness, who gives us peace in the midst of turmoil. In Christ, we find the courage to confront our crises. In Christ, we find the strength to stand up to our fears. In Christ, we find the hope to keep going, even when everything seems lost.

But how do we do this? How do we confront our crises with Christ? D. It starts with prayer. It starts with turning to God in our moments of despair, with pouring out our hearts to Him, with trusting in His love and His mercy and His grace.

It continues with reading and meditating on God's Word, with filling our minds and our hearts with His truth, with His promises, with His hope. It involves fellowship with other believers, with sharing our struggles and our fears, with encouraging one another, with praying for one another. And it culminates in action, in stepping out in faith, in trusting in God's plan, in following Christ's example, in living out our faith in the midst of our crises.

So, let's confront our crises with Christ. Let's turn to Him in prayer. Let's meditate on His Word. Let's fellowship with other believers. Let's step out in faith. And let's trust in God's plan. Because in Christ, we have hope. In Christ, we have strength. In Christ, we have peace. And in Christ, we have victory.

Remember, dear friends, we're not alone. God is with us. God hears our prayers. God sees our pain. God knows our hearts. And God has a plan. So, let's confront our crises with Christ. Let's find hope in the midst of despair. And let's live out our faith in the midst of our crises. Because in Christ, we are more than conquerors. In Christ, we are victorious. And in Christ, we are never alone.
