I Will Not Let Go

Summary: Sometimes we have to wrestle with the flesh and refuse to LET GO until we receive our blessings.
I WILL NOT LET GO… SPIRITUAL BREAK THROUGH.

WHAT A MESS! EVERYTHING IS WRONG. YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT A DARK NIGHT? THERE IS NO HOPE.
My home is dysfunctional. My home is divided. My brother, ESAU hates me. Our dad, ISAAC, loves ESAU more than me. Mom, REBEKAH really loves me. JACOB means sub-planter or cheater. I bought the birthright for a bowl of soup. That makes a bigger mess than ever.
MOMMA HELPED ME DECEIVE DAD… ESAU HAS PROMISED HE IS GOING TO KILL ME IN BITTER REVENGE. He is serious. This is no joking matter.
Jacob has to RUN AWAY FROM HIS ANGRY BROTHER. 2 wives, 12 sons later, JACOB COMES FACE TO FACE WITH HIS BAD ATTITUDES. IN ONE NIGHT HE WILL BE FOREVER CHANGED.
Genesis 32:26 And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.
JACOB IS ALL ALONE. JACOB HAS A DECISION TO MAKE. JACOB WILL HAVE A LIMP THE REST OF HIS LIFE. I REFUSE TO LET GO UNLESS YOU BLESS ME.
Genesis 32:24 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. 25 And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. 26 And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. 27 And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. 28 And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. 29 And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there.
The CHEATER REFUSED TO LET GO UNTIL HE BLESSES HIM. JACOB BECOMES A NEW MAN WITH A NEW ATTITUDE. JACOB’S CHANGE CAME: HE IS NOW: ISRAEL: PRINCE WITH POWER FROM GOD AND WITH MEN.
.
JABEZ WAS DIFFERENT THAN OTHER PEOPLE. THE BIBLE SAYS VERY LITTLE ABOUT JABEZ. WE KNOW JABEZ WAS A MAN OF FAITH. JABEZ IS DIFFERENT, HE CHANGES. JABEZ MEANS: PAIN, SORROW BUT GOD HAS A PLAN.
Jabez’s mother suffered in child birth. Every time someone called his name it was a reminder of the suffering and pain of his birth. Every time Jabez’s name was called it was a reminder of life’s hardship. They called him hurt?
1 Chronicles 4:9 And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow. 10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.
Jabez knew how to pray! Jabez’s refusal to allow his past to define his future. Jabez was a man of faith and confidence in God’s plan. By faith Jabez was a special man of God. By faith he stood out as a man of honor. Jabez had one desire: HE WANTED TO PLEASE GOD AND LIVE IN GOD’S BLESSINGS.
JABEZ PRAYED BOLDLY.
1. JABEZ ASKED GOD TO BLESS HIM AND HIS FAMILY. GOD CAN OVERCOME OUR PAST.
2. GOD WILL YOU GROW ME! JABEZ SOUGHT GOD’S BLESSING TO STRETCH AND ENLARGE HIS EFFORTS.
3. JABEZ DESIRED GOD’S PRESENCE NOT JUST PRESENTS. JABEZ SOUGHT GOD TO BE WITH HIM IN EACH STEP HE TRAVELED.
4. JABEZ TRUSTED GOD’S GUIDANCE AND PROTECTION.
5. JABEZ KNEW PAIN, HE ASKED GOD TO HELP HIM IN HIS SUFFFERING.
6. JABEZ’S TRUST CAUSED HIM TO HAVE HOPE OUT OF THIS WORLD.
7. JABEZ KNEW THE POWER OF GOD CHANGES PEOPLE’S LIVES.
MASTER, WE LOVE AND RESPECT YOU… BUT WE HAVE FISHED ALL NIGHT.
Peter knew night fishing was more prosperous because the fish were easier to catch at night. Peter and his friends were professional fishers. They knew the tricks of the trade. Peter knew without catching fish they could not make any money? No money --- no house payment? No, boat payment? We fished hard? We honestly tried our best.
Luke 5:5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
Luke 5:5 (MSG) Simon said, "Master, we've been fishing hard all night and haven't caught even a minnow. But if you say so, I'll let out the nets."
