Summary: a wise man
Matt 7 v 21 - 29
The Great Delusion 21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
The Great Decision 24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
I. Two men, one wise and one foolish. What made the wise man wise? He was a doer, not a hearer only What made the foolish man foolish? He was not a doer, but a hearer only II. Two houses, one built on rock and one built on sand. Consider the similarities. A. Same Purpose. both built a house B. Same Plan. Both built according to plan, C. Same Priorities. Both built hoping to withstand the storm.
The Great Division III. Two results. One house withstood the storms while the other house fell. A. The storms to which Jesus referred could include the difficulties and disappointments we encounter in life. B. Considering the context, they more likely represent the final judgment. II Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. Hebrews 9:27. And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: C. Some people’s lives will "hold up" at the judgment while others will not. Matthew 25:46. And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal. The Great Distinction 25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. WHAT CAUSES A SPIRITUAL BUILDING TO FALL? · Not Having the Right Foundation-- I Cor. 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. · Not Having the Right Builder-- Psalms 127:1 A Song of degrees for Solomon. Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain. · Not Having the Right Material to Build with— Eph. 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
