I WILL GLADLY REPAY YOU TUESDAY

TEXT:

Romans 12: 14 Bless them that persecute you, BLESS, and curse not.

15. Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.

16. Be of the same mind one to another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.

17. Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.

19. Dearly beloved, AVENGE NOT YOURSELVES, but rather give place unto wrath; for it is written, VENGEANCE IS MINE; I WILL REPAY, saith the Lord.

20. Therefore if thine enemy hunger, FEED HIM; if he thirst, GIVE HIM drink: for in doing so thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.

21. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

Proverbs 10:12 Hatred stirs up STRIFES,

but love covers up all sins.

Let us consider CHOICES HAVE CONSEQUENCES.

Let us look at the great wisdom and stupidity of Popeye.

Remember how Popeye and Brutus would fight over OLIVE OYL?

Go figure?

Olive Oyl was one of the ugliest bean nose telephone pole shaped women that ever lived? If there is one thing worse than her looks, she had a rotten personality. I could never understand Popeye.

I was never smart, but I could never figure why Popeye waited until Brutus had Popeye’s girl on Brutus’ arm, and poor old Popeye was beat to death,

THEN POPEYE WOULD SAY:

ME’S HAD ALL ME’S CAN STAND, AND ME CAN’T STANDS NO MORE.

Then, THEN, only then would -- Popeye reach for the SPINACH can, there was barely any strength to eat the spinach.

Popeye seemed to live inches away from defeat.

Then Popeye would jump up and gain a great victory and get Olive Oil back on his arm.

DUMB? DUMB? DUMB?

Not just dumb to take Olive Oil back, but dumb to wait until he is near his end to eat spinach.

POPEYE NEVER LEARNED: CHOICES HAVE CONSEQUENCES.

Popeye should have ate spinach for breakfast, lunch, dinner and for snacks.

He had the power, he knew the plan, he knew...

He just lacked a love, respect, and discipline for what would bring him to victory.

That is not my lesson, but I hope you learn a lesson from our hero Popeye?

Stay ready. Ready for what? Ready for anything!

CHOICES HAVE CONSEQUENCES, CAN YOU SEE?

I would like to approach another guy, seems he to lived on the edge.

Wempy is his name.

Can you imagine what WEMPY’S life must have been like?

Wempy was always hungry, but never had any money to buy him any food.

Wempy’s line went something like this,

you scholars of great literature will recall:

I WILL GLADLY REPAY YOU TUESDAY FOR A HAMBURGER TODAY.

I can identify the Wempy spirit in the church and in our society today.

We want to live on credit.

We want to live above our means.

We want what our parents have today, today.

I don’t know what got Wempy first, a heart attack from high cholesterol,

or his monthly payments.

But, CHOICES HAVE CONSEQUENCES.

I have been a student of life and of the Word of God for many years.

I have learned a few things, yet wisdom eludes me,

kind of like catching a butterfly.

Just when I have it, it flies away.

But I have learned some basic things.

1. MAN CAN BE SO SMART.

Man’s creativeness is so cool. Life is profound. Love can conquer anything.

Life is so full of wisdom, one can learn by revelation of the Word of God and studying people.

Life is so full of greatness that great meditation will fill our hearts.

Life is so wonderful one cannot understand and know it all.

Life is a great mystery! Life cannot be fully understood by human reasoning.

There is no problem that God and the individual cannot solve.

Challenges are but doorways to God’s opportunities.

Life is wonderful and mankind and life can be so beautiful.

Man can reach to the lowest levels and lift another to new levels.

I have also learned point two.

2. MAN CAN BE SO STUPID.

Strong people can be weak.

Seems like man can make a mess out of anything.

Mankind can make the most unintelligent decisions and be so blind to the consequences of stupidity.

Man can allow life to rob him of his dreams, his feelings and hearing can get dull, that reality becomes distorted.

Vanity and Vexation says Solomon.

People can be mean, selfish, self-centered, spiteful, and ungrateful.

3. LIFE HAS A MIRROR EFFECT.

If a donkey peers into a mirror, don’t expect to see a prophet!

Words are mirrors. Actions are mirrors.
