Summary: We will explore thee functions of light and discuss the meaning of The Bright Morning Star.
INTRODUCTION
A. In 1978, a song written and sung by country music singer Hank Williams was released. The song resonated with many:
I wandered so aimless, life filled with sin
I wouldn't let my dear savior in
Then Jesus came like a stranger in the night
Praise the Lord, I saw the light
[Chorus]
I saw the light, I saw the light
No more darkness, no more night
Now I'm so happy, no sorrow in sight
Praise the Lord, I saw the light
B. Hank had read or heard the word of God (John 1:4-5; 8:12; 2 Pet 1:19).
C. We shall explore three functions of light and then focus on the bright and morning star.
I. THREE FUNCTIONS OF LIGHT
A. Produce consciousness of sin (John 3:19-20; 12:44-46; 2 Cor 4:3-6; 2 Pet 1:5-9).
B. Convict the conscience of sin (John 9:39-41; 3:16-18; 16:7-12).
C. Move the conscience to action (Acts 2:36-41).
II. THE RISING OF THE MORNING STAR
A. The Morning Star shines in the heart of the believer (2 Pet 1:18-19).
B. The context (2 Pet 1:16-20; Matt 17:1-8; 11:12-15).
C. The Star
1. Identified (Rev 22:16; John 8:12)
2. The Star rising in our hearts (Matt 5:14-16).
a. As we are filled, the light shines brighter and brighter (Eph 3:14-19; 2 Cor 4:5-6, 2 Cor 3:12-18).
CONCLUSION
A. Have you seen the light?
B. Is the Morning Star filling your heart?
