Summary: While they were walking along Jesus began to explain to them His plan and how that it was fulfilled by Him. Luke 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself
I don't need to see because, my Lord my Saviour lives in me.
Last week we looked at the two disciples that were on their way home in Emmaus after Jesus was crucified.
We saw that they were discouraged, they had their doubts and were in disbelief of what had just happened. Jesus had ap-peared and began to talk to them as they were walking on that road home but, they didn't recognize Him. Luke 24:16 But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.
While they were walking along Jesus began to explain to them His plan and how that it was fulfilled by Him. Luke 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself
They invited Jesus to stay the night and eat with them and Jesus agreed but, as they sat at a meal that night Jesus took the bread and break it and then they knew Him and Jesus vanished. Can you imagine the scene? They were enlighten by Jesus Himself on the plan of salvation. They were much in fellowship with Him. Just a reminder, Jesus doesn't fellowship with the non believer. But, for the ones who belongs to Him. He comforts the discouraged, He reassures doubts in His own by way of the Holy Spirit. God's word burns within us just as it did with these two disciples to help us overcome any disbe-lief, any doubts we have about His love and plan for our life.
Here we see fellowship, praise for our Lord because, I believe they were excited to say the least, that their hearts burned with the Lords words in verse Luke 24:32 And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures? 33 And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them,
Imagine this moment if you will, there must have been shouting, tears of joy because, they now realize that their king, their Saviour, their friend lives! They were so excited they got up and walked back to Jerusalem to tell the other disciples their experience. Now remember, it was late and it was a 7 mile journey back down that same road where they had just walked with Jesus, where did they get the strength? The same place we get ours, from Christ Jesus. The bread of life.
He is the same yesterday, today and forever. We read the Bible or hear God's word and it comes to life and burns in our heart and we store those words and it gives us power to overcome trials, troubles, sickness and things that we thought we could never overcome. God's word burns in our hearts because it can burn away doubts, it can burn away discouragement, and it should burn away anything that gets in our way to tell others about our experience with Him but, that's not the case a lot of times is it?
Back to the story here in Luke chapter 24. The two disciples made it back to Jerusalem and met with the other disciples. Now, let's catch the next scene. Those two disciples were telling the others their experience on the road with Jesus and how when He break bread with them He disappeared and all of a sudden Jesus appeared in the mist of all of them the Bible says. So, What did they do? I believe they did what anyone would have done. Luke 24:37 But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.
Now listen to what our Lord says. Luke 24:38 And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
Well, can I explain this? No, and no one else can except to say that a glorified body is just that.... it is glory and because of what Jesus did for us we will have a glorified body one day. Notice what our Lord said to those disciples that night when they thought they had seen a ghost. "handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have."
Just to say, He didn't say anything about the blood because He shed that for us. I was helping to do a week long revival a few years ago at Eastern Shore but, I was staying in a motel each night in Pocomoke, MD. I wrote a note on the motel stationery and I still have it today thinking it would make a good song. It goes, "Sometimes I wonder what life is all about, sometimes I look to God with disbelief and doubt but, one thing is for certain that I don't need to see. That my Lord, Christ my Saviour He lives in me." Love in His name, Ronnie Miller www.themillersbiblestudy.com
