I’m still holding on Genesis 40: 14-15

14 And please remember me and do me a favor when things go well for you. Mention me to Pharaoh, so he might let me out of this place. 15 For I was kidnapped from my homeland, the land of the Hebrews, and now I’m here in prison, but I did nothing to deserve it.”

They said I wouldn't make it

They said I wouldn't be here today

They said I never amount to anything

But I'm glad to say, that I'm on my way

And I'm going more and more each day

There were many that started out with me

But now, they've gone astray

But I'm still holding on

I'm still holding on

I'm still holding to his hand

Hallelujah this morning I’m still holding on, I don’t care what it looks like, I don’t care what people say about me, I don’t care how they look at me, by now you should give up, there’s nothing left, but I’m still holding on to His hand

This lesson takes me to the story of Joseph, Joseph is in Potiphar’s jail accused of a crime he didn’t commit with the promise from the butler that he would remember him when he was free

It actually seems a little hard to believe that the butler, after seeing Joseph's interpretation of the dream come true before his eyes, would actually forget about Joseph's request for a mention to Pharaoh. Perhaps he was so elated to be restored to his high position that he forgot what Joseph had asked of him. Or maybe after getting his job back as chief butler, he didn't want to give someone else the limelight, or perhaps he feared to remind the pharaoh that he had previously sent him to prison. Whatever the reason, God was still orchestrating events to His timetable—leaving Joseph imprisoned for another two full years before delivering him, illustrating once again that we should be patient as we wait on God. It may take some time, maybe even a lifetime, but He will come through on His promises, all God want us to do is trust Him enough to keep holding on. I can imagine in my mind Joseph saying I’m standing on the promise that you said I would be the head and not the tail, you made me some promises when I was in my father’s house, and I’m still holding on to the promise, It's been some dark days and lonely night, I been forgotten, falsely accused but I’m still holding on, I just don’t believe he brought me this far to leave me now, to leave me here

You don’t believe me I dare you to ask Job, after he lost everything he had, all his cattle, all his oxen, all his children, all his wealth and his health, somebody can help me testify Job said “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.” So what I’m still gonna hold on, though He slay me yet will I trust him.

For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:

But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold. I’m still holding on

If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come and until then I’m still holding on

Paul can testify that when his ship wrecked and was destroyed and it looked like no one would make, but my bible says some swam to shore but somebody like myself grabbed hold of the broken pieces, when you can’t swim you are the one that should have drowned, the waves and the currents should have taken me under, the wind should have blown me farther out to shore, but when the storms ceased you’ll find me still holding on to the broken pieces

I’m reminded of a story I heard a long time ago, story is about the different kind of fishes and he said sometimes the water is troubled, he said the catfish is a scavenger and he lives at the bottom of the sea collecting all the mess he can get, the goldfish is a beautiful fish but so aggressive that he can’t get alone with no other fish other than it own kind, then there was the school of fish, these fish came together in a large group, they all swim in the same direction, the shark was in a class of it’s own because it was so large everyone was afraid of him, so he threw his weight around, then there was the minnow fish, this is the smallest fish is the sea, most of the time ppl use them as bait for fishing, one day a storm came and caused a whirlwind and it entered into the sea, the scavenger at the bottom of the sea was so busy collection everybody’s garbage and got caught up in the wind, the goldfish was so busy fighting each other that they didn’t notice the wind until it was too late, the school of fish was such a large group of fish that they couldn’t separate from each other so the current took them all under, the shark was so big that he couldn’t get out the way in time enough and got caught up in the whirlwind and the next day they was all washed up to shore, and someone asked the question what happened to the little minnow fish, the little fish was swimming close to shore he said I’m still here I’m still holding on
