"Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall. Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. All the Kings horses and all the kings men. Couldn’t put Humpty together again"

There are various theories of the origin of Humpty Dumpty. “Humpty Dumpty” referred to King Richard III, 1483-85 the hunchbacked monarch. At the Battle of Bosworth Field, he fell from his steed, a horse he had named “Wall” (as dramatically rendered in Shakespeare’s play “Richard III”: “A horse! A horse! My Kingdom for a Horse!”) Richard was surrounded by enemy troops in the battle, and was butchered right there, his body being hacked to pieces. Hence the final part of the rhyme: “All the King’s Horses and All the King’s men couldn’t put Humpty together again!”

Another is from the name of a cannon during the English Civil War. 1642-48 It was on top of a tower. When the opposing force blew off the top of the tower, Humpty Dumpty fell to the ground. The King’s (since they were on the Royalist side) footmen and cavalry tried to fix him, but failed.

A. Humpty Dumpty Lives

----------------------

- Living his life his way

- He was cheerful and chipper sitting high upon a wall.

- Never had the fear of being poached, boiled, or fried.

- Never had the concern of becoming an omelet or a meringue

- Looking for the good life.

- Sitting high and looking down at all around him.

- Never had a care or a concern.

- Never being committed to anything - But one day as he sat up on top of his wall, something happened.

James 1:14

But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

1 Peter 5:8

8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

B. Humpty Dumpty’s Slip

------------------------

1. Characterize As A Man

– He was from town – Lk 8:27.

- Gadarenes = “reward at the end”

- 6 miles SE of Sea of Galilee

- Associated with family & friends.

- But, he was bound by demons!

-. Notice what the demons had done…

2. Out of Control (v. 4)

- Living undisciplined Lives

- Letting things slip

- Becoming entangled with things

- We have our own ideas

- Our own Methods

- An agenda that does not include Christ

- Drastic measures

- It seems that nobody can tame him.

- Nobody can do anything with them.

- They are intent on destruction.

C. Humpty DumPTy’s Fall

------------------------

1. Lived With the Unholy

Pigs v11

- You notice that you can get use to anything

- Pigs were the most unclean of the unclean animals – Lev. 11:7-8

Dead v3 - He lived in the tombs.

- The devil likes to keep you in the tombs.

- The devil likes to have you hang out with those who are dead.

- Not necessarily physically dead, but he loves to have you hang out with those who are spiritually dead.

-. He wants them to influence you.

-. He wants them to drag you down.

- Being handcuffed to a dead man

- Where ever you go or what ever you do you have to drag that dead man around

- Can’t praise the Lord because you are handcuffed

- Can’t get your Bible or read it because of the dad man

- Can’t really do anything

- He can’t go anywhere because he’s handcuffed to a dead man.

- This is how those who are spiritually dead influence us.

- They drag us down and prevent us from practicing the basics of Christianity.

- The devil likes to get you to live among the dead and become the type of person that no man can tame

2. Always Crying (v. 5)

- Crying.

- Note the people crying today.

- Crying for something more.

- Crying over difficulties of life.

- Crying in the graveyard.

- That’s what the devil had done

- But God said I’m gonna wipe away all tears from their eyes.

.

3. Always Hurting v.5

-. Notice he was cutting himself.

- That’s self-abuse.

- He didn’t feel like he was worthy to live.

- He didn’t like his body, so he cut it.

- They aren’t satisfied with what God gave them…

- The basic problem in those people is no sense of self-worth.

- You are precious in the sight of God, no matter how big or small you may be.

D Humpty Dumpty Together Again

-------------------------------

Luke 4:18

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
