HOW WILL I BE REMEMBERED?

FOUND AT JESUS’ FEET!

MARY OF BETHANY TEACHES US A LESSON STILL REAL TODAY.

By Wade Martin Hughes, Sr. Kyfingers@aol.com

I. HAVE YOU EVER DESIRED TO BE SPECIAL?

DO YOU WANT TO BE REMEBERED?

A. Live so the Preacher can tell the truth at your funeral!

B. I am told President Jimmy Carter always had a great concern for how history would remember him?

C. How will I be remember?

D. SPECIAL:

Distinguished by some unusual trait or quality.

Held in particular esteem.

You want to some how be unique, extra, or additional good traits above others.

Standing in a class by one’s self.

II. WOULD WE HAVE ENJOYED STANDING IN HISTORY AS THE FATHER OR MOTHER OF JESUS?

A. JESUS KNEW THIS OPPORTUNITY WAS LIMITED, BUT JESUS KNEW THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE SPECIAL IN HIS KINGDOM HAD NO LIMITS!

Matthew 12:48 But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren? 49 And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!

50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

B. YOU CAN BE VERY SPECIAL TO YOUR SPOUSE? FAMILY? CHURCH?

C. YOUR WORDS AND YOUR ACTIONS BUILD MEMORIES?

D. ARE YOU BUILDING GOOD MEMORIES?

III. MARY OF BETHANY HAD A GOOD FAMILY.

John 11:1 Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.

A. MARY HAD A FAMOUS BROTHER, LAZARUS.

B. Mary of Bethany had a brother named Lazarus, and a sister named Martha, we just finished a study on Martha the WORRIED HOUSEKEEPER.

IV. MARY HAD MADE SOME MISTAKES BUT SHE HAD THE RIGHT FRIEND.

John 11:5 Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.

V. TO BE REMEBERED BE A GIVER NOT A TAKER!

Mark 14:3 And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard

very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head.

VI. SOME PEOPLE WILL ALWAYS SEE WHAT YOU USED TO BE, AND HOW YOU SHOULD HAVE DONE THINGS THE WAY THEY THOUGHT YOU SHOULD HAVE DONE IT.

THEY WILL NEVER LET YOU HAVE THE CHANCE TO BE WHAT GOD HAS PLANNED FOR YOU.

Mark 14:4 And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made?

VII. TO BE REMEMBERED YOU NEED TO BE A LISTENER AND HEAR AND BE SENSITIVE AND RECEIVE.

Luke 10:39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word.

A. LISTENING IS A GREAT ACT OF LOVE.

B. WE OWE ONE ANOTHER TO LISTEN INTENTLY.

VIII. WE MUST MAKE GOOD, UNSELFISH CHOICES TO BE REMEMBERED.

Luke 10:42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

IX. MARY COULD HAVE THE HABIT OF PROCRASTINATION?

John 11:20 Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house.

A. God does not look for perfect people, but forgiven people.

B. YOU HAVE AN OPPURTUNITY TO BE REMEMBERED?

X. WHY DO WE REMEMBER MARY? SHE WAS A GIVER.

Mark 14:3 And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head.

A. THE PRICE OF THIS GIFT WOULD HAVE BEEN AN AVERAGE YEARLY SALARY.

B. LOVE GIFTS DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE GREAT MONETARY VALUE.

Mark 14:5 For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her.

XI. WHAT MADE MARY GREAT? MARY MOVED IN GOD’S PLAN,

WHEN SHE DIDN’T EVEN KNOW GOD’S PLAN.

Mark 14:8 She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying. 9 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.

XII. WHY DO WE REMEBER MARY?

BECAUSE SHE HAD A LOVE, COMPASSION, AND A CLOSENESS TO JESUS.

WE FIND HER THREE TIMES AT JESUS’S FEET!

1. SHE WAS LEARNING FROM THE MASTER

Luke 10:39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word.

2. MARY FOUND COMFORT FROM BEING NEAR JESUS.

John 11:32 Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
