How To Prepare For The Day Of The Lord?
Contributed by Barnabas Park on Mar 2, 2026 (message contributor)
Summary: As we prepare for the day of Christ's return, we are called to stand pure and blameless. This blamelessness is ultimately achieved by sharing an overflowing love for one another, which allows us to walk in the light and face the Lord's coming with absolute confidence
Philippians 1:9–10 “And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ.”
When our love grows under the guidance of true knowledge and spiritual discernment, we are able not only to distinguish what is truly important, but also to stand pure and blameless on the day Christ returns.
Then What does a pure and blameless life mean? The Apostle Paul explains this to the believers in Philippi: “Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and pure, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation” (Phil. 2:14–15). A pure and blameless life is a life without complaining or arguing with one another; it is a life that builds loving relationships among believers. Paul also exhorts the believers in Thessalonica: “And may the Lord cause you to increase and overflow with love for one another and for everyone else, just as our love for you overflows, 13so that He may establish your hearts in blamelessness and holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all His saints. Amen.” (1 Thess. 3:12–13). Ultimately, a pure and blameless life means sharing love among believers and extending love to all people — in other words, a life of love.
Therefore Paul says, “Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand” (Phil. 4:5), emphasizing that the closer we are to the Lord’s return, the more we should love and embrace one another. Although the day of the Lord will come unexpectedly, it will not come like a thief to those who are awake in the light (1 Thess. 5:4–5). This “life in the light” is none other than a life of love. As it is written, “Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness. Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and in him there is no cause for stumbling” (1 John 2:9–10).
For this reason, John exhorts those of us who desire to welcome the Lord with boldness: “God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment” (1 John 4:16–17). Those who wait for the Lord’s coming are those who live out love in their lives. Therefore, may we all abide in love so that we may stand with confidence on that day.
