How Great is Our God

Psalms 33

Last week we saw how great, massive, gracious and mighty the God we serve is. We looked at the universe and saw how vast it really is. We saw the expanse and we saw God’s fingerprint on the universe. Just to recap, here is a picture of the Grand Design Galaxy, otherwise known as the Whirlpool Galaxy. The Hubble Space Telescope looked into the center of it and discovered the black hole, and this is what the Hubble Space Telescope saw in the center of the Black Hole.

In general people believe;

1. In God

2. In Jesus Christ

3. That God created the universe

4. That Jesus Christ Died for our sins rose from the dead and is coming back.

People need to know that God cars, they want to believe that God is concerned for them today. They want to know if God sees them in their pain and suffering today. They want to know if God really is gracious and merciful, loving and kind.

The Psalmist put it well, in Psalm 139

PS 139:13 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

PS 139:14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. 15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, 16 your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

This awesome, majestic, and gracious God formed us; put us together in the womb. Out of love He made us.

Go back to the beginning of the story. Genesis 1:1 tells us God created the Heaven and the Earth. In Verse 3 God said; Let there be light and there was light. However, the most interesting comes way near the end of the chapter and into the 2nd chapter.

GE 1:26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And He blessed them.

What do we see here? God created the entire universe and everything in it. Yet, only of man do we see this important item. In the image of God, He created man. Only man is created in the image of the Creator, only man is blessed by the Creator and given dominion over the Earth.

PS 144:4 Man is like a breath; his days are like a fleeting shadow.

Although we are a wisp of God’s breath, a vapor in the span of time, we are marked by Majesty.

We are fearfully and wonderfully made in the Image of our Creator, nothing else in all creation can bear that mark.

Today it is all about image, it is all about design. The cool people wear the designer clothes and have the LOOK.

We, all of mankind, have a label unrivaled. WE are “Made in the Image of GOD”. We are incredibly special.

1 cell from Mom, 1 cell from Dad did a miraculous thing. The 23 chromosomes from

Mom met with the 23 chromosomes from Dad and formed a miraculous item. These 2 cells created another cell, 4 nucleotides formed what is called DNA.

DNA we discovered is a code written in the language of GOD. If we go back to the Psalms 139 we see DNA, God saw the unformed body, He saw and knit us together in our mother’s womb, which is what DNA is. It is the code that tells everything about us. It is a strand in one cell that is about 6ft long and has billions of codes on it, telling everything about us.

Augustine said it well when he said: Men go to the depths of the sea, to the heights of the heavens and to the ends of the earth to see the splendor of it, passing by themselves.

WE are wonderfully and fearfully made and God has His eye on us. Psalms 33 says

PS 33:13 From heaven the LORD looks down and sees all mankind; 14 from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth--15 he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do.

We did not come from some primordial pond; we were created in the IMAGE of our CREATOR.

In week 26, one billion receptor cells from our brain seek out one billion transmitter cells from our eye. When these billions of cells find their perfect mate, eye sight happens. In all the universe the most miraculous event is our eye, there is nothing in all creation like it. No other creature has eyes like ours.
