Summary: Nothing in life matters except for being ready

"From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over the land. About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?"(which means "My God, my God why have you forsaken me?") When some of those standing there heard this, they said, "He is calling Elijah." Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge. He filled it with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. The rest said, "Now leave him alone. Let's see if Elijah comes to save him." And when Jesus had cried out in a loud voice, He gave up He gave up His spirit. At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs after Jesus' resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people. When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus were terrified and saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, "Surely he was the Son!" Matthew 27:45-56

A day of Betrayal.

Abel betrayed by Cain. Joseph betrayed by brothers. Uriah betrayed by Bathsheba, David betrayed by Saul, Jesus was betrayed by Judas, but also by Peter. Betrayal never feels good, hurts deeply. Everyone of us has been guilty of betraying Jesus.

Remedy is repentance, forgiveness, restoration, change.

A day of trial and Punishment.

Jesus is arrested. He is tried before the religious leaders. He is tried before the Roman officials. He is mocked and beaten.

He is about to face the punishment for sin. Not for His own sin, He committed no sin, became sin so He could pay the price for our sin.

Man's punishment was the beating and crucifixion.

A day of Death.

Jesus faced death to bring forgiveness to us. Jesus did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.

Darkness. Earthquake.

Death has always been the price for sin.

For the wages of sin is death.

Animals dying to provide skins to Adam and Eve

Adam and Eve would die.

Death and sin were always linked.

The power of death was about to die!

A day of Deliverance.

Jesus paid the cost of sin.

Jesus took the wrath.

Physical pain.

Spiritual pain.

Temple curtain torn in two.

Resurrection of the dead.

Death to life.

The coming Day.

A day of horror for some.

A day of rejoicing for others.

Nothing in life matters except for being ready for that day!
